Wynne Evans’ Strictly partner breaks silence on sexual swipe scandal with two word response
Katya Jones, the Strictly Come Dancing star, has two words to address Wynne Evans’ controversy.
The opera singer and GoCompare advert star, 52, is currently appearing on the nationwide tour of the BBC dance competition, alongside Katya. Following his obscene remark directed at tour host Janette Manrara, he has since been given a warning by BBC bosses.
However, it appears that Wynne still enjoys Katya’s support despite the scandal, who shared a snap with the scandal-hit star on social media. In view of her 252, 000 followers on Instagram, she re-shared a post, orginally posted by Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri as she, Tasha, Wynne and Jamie Borthwick sat in a bar, relaxing.
Captioning her re-share, Katya penned: “Tour fam”, along with a red-heart emoji. Wynne joked as Janette walked over during a recent photocall in Birmingham with fellow cast members JB Gill, Montell Douglas, Shayne Ward, and Jamie. Evans had been caught sexually abusing Janette when she approached the group while he and the cast were huddled together for a photo.
He sang out: “Go Compare”, before adding: “Not too close to Jamie”. In the video that Daily Mail published, he then referenced a lewd sexual act by using the incredibly offensive term “spit roast.” Since then, Wynne has apologized and addressed his contentious comment. In a statement shared with the Mirror, he said: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable for which I sincerely apologise”.
A BBC spokesman added that the organization has spoken with the opera singer and that it “does not tolerate such behavior.” Additionally, he has been warned by tour producers. Strictly Live Tour and BBC Studios spokesman said, “We had not previously received any complaints.” We have made it very clear to Wynne that we will not tolerate such conduct on the tour.
Due to an ankle problem, Wynne recently canceled his Strictly tour appearance in Glasgow. In a story on Instagram, he shared images of his strained ankle. In a video posted on the social media site on Saturday evening, he said: “Ankle’s getting a bit better, it was great to be able to sing in Glasgow tonight, even if I couldn’t dance, hopefully back tomorrow. But watch this space, I’ll let you know in the morning. See how the swelling goes down, and all that kind of stuff, thanks for all the lovely messages, amazing”.
During his time on Strictly, Evans came under fire as he appeared to ‘ grope ‘ partner Katya. The 52-year-old Welsh opera singer appeared to move his hand closer to his professional dance partner’s stomach after placing it in a controversial manner. As the pair sat side by side, Katya’s stony face appeared to brush his hand away.
The pair described it as a “silly inside joke,” despite the outcry from many fans for his ostensible “grope.” Some, however, failed to buy the apology and explanation and have called the singer’s actions inappropriate. It caused Katya and Wynne to redouble their efforts to stop the backlash, which also resulted in their cancellation of the spin-off series It Takes Two.
Katya said: “Sorry Fleur]East], sorry, I will get onto dancing I promise but can I please first get something out of the way that I feel like overshadowed our performance for absolutely no reason and quite frankly, actually, I can’t bare sitting here watching this man]Wynne] being portrayed as someone he’s not.
It’s impossible to tell the difference between this incident with the hand and the high five on Saturday night because it was an inside joke between Wynne and I. Was it a silly joke? Yes! Was it a bad joke? Yes! Wynne said, “Yeah, and I’ve watched it back, I can see how people might have misinterpret it,” at this point.
Katya went on:” Yeah but however, it was a joke and even the idea that it made me feel ‘ uncomfortable ‘ or ‘ offended ‘ in anyway is total nonsense. Those that have doubts, you guys have it got wrong! Thus, it’s likely that this will be the end. You]Wynne] just keep making me smile, please! “
