Will Austria’s Freedom Party form a coalition and create stable government?

Since World War II, Far-right leaders have been invited to form a government, with Herbert Kickle being the first.

Austria might soon join the far-right-led bloc of increasing number of European Union nations.

The conservative Austrian People’s Party’s months of negotiations ended with no consensus, leaving the president, a left-leaning former Greens leader, with no choice but to veer even further to the right.

The Freedom Party (FPO) is anti-immigration and pro-Russian.

Its leader, Herbert Kickle, is due to begin negotiations with the conservatives and is hoping to emerge as chancellor.

Will he succeed?

And if he does, what does the future look like for Austria’s ailing economy and its significant immigrant population?
