Why FG Hasn’t Prosecuted Diezani Adequately – Waha Shittu
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Wahab Shittu, has blamed the difficult legal procedures involved in extradition for the inability of the Nigerian government to properly prosecute former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, for over 8 years.
When Alison-Madueke was a minister under former president Goodluck Jonathan, she is alleged to have looted millions of dollars from Nigerians.
Since the end of Jonathan’s rule, she has been unable to appear in court in Nigeria where the government has brought charges against her. She has been absent from the country.

Shittu, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, claimed that the former minister has not been adequately tried because of the difficult procedures involved in extraditing someone from another nation.
You are aware that some legal requirements must be met before someone can be brought or extradited from one country to Nigeria before the extradition process can be completed.
There are administrative international procedures that must be followed in addition to the judicial procedures.
“I believe efforts are being made by successive Nigerian governments, particularly this administration, to ensure that those who have fled the country, particularly Diezani, are extradited back to the country so that they can face their trials,” said the president.
If this is to be accomplished, “you have legal and extra-legal hurdles to overcome,” Shuttu said.
The Nigerian government on Friday received $52.88m recovered Galactica assets, linked to Diezani Alison-Madueke from the USA.
At the official signing ceremony of the United States of America-Nigeria asset agreement’s signing ceremony on Friday in Abuja, the attorney-general of the Federation and minister of justice Lateef Fagbemi made the disclosure.
