Why did Israel break the ceasefire in Gaza?

The harrowing news that Israel had resumed its genocide in Gaza shook the world.

How many people were injured, many of them? What causes this to occur? What brought us here?

What we know is as follows:

What is going on in Gaza?

In overnight attacks on Tuesday, Israel carried out airstrikes as people slept in the early morning hours.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced the reprise of Israel’s occupation of Gaza in a statement.

What city did the attacks attack?

The northern, central, and southern governorates were reportedly the targets of Israeli raids.

Israeli tanks shelled Khan Younis’ town of Abasan, according to Al Jazeera Arabic.

According to Tareq Abou Azzoum of Al Jazeera, “the majority of the air strikes have been directed at densely populated neighborhoods, improvised schools, and residential structures where people are finding shelter.”

What are the victims’ details known to us?

In a short period of time, Israel has reported the deaths of at least 404 people.

Children reportedly a part of the victims in images that came out of the ground. Unknown how many people are still buried beneath the rubble.

The government’s media office stated that “entire families” had been killed, with the majority of these martyrs and missing people reportedly being women, children, and elderly.

What justification did Israel offer for announcing the ceasefire?

Israel claims that it is obliging Hamas to release its prisoners in Gaza.

Additionally, it asserts that it is aware of Hamas’ plans for new attacks and rearming.

However, according to Al Jazeera’s Hamdah Salhut, “Israel itself had decided to withdraw from the negotiations for phase two of this agreement, which would ultimately result in the end of the war and the release of all 59 Israeli prisoners who are still being held in Gaza.”

Hamas has argued that the agreement should continue to phase two, as originally agreed upon, while Israel had been attempting to avoid moving to the second phase of the ceasefire with American support.

Hamas’ statement: What is it?

Israel is accused of violating the ceasefire and continuing its genocide, according to a statement released by Hamas on its Telegram.

The attacks were described as “blatant violations of all international and humanitarian conventions” and claimed that many of the wounded had to die because they couldn’t get to hospitals due to the perilous humanitarian situation and lack of fuel.

What response has the US provided?

Before the attacks resumed, Israel was informed by the White House.

What are the captives’ knowledge and beliefs?

The Israeli government claims that there are still about 59 Israeli captives in Gaza, of whom less than half are thought to still be alive.

Israel is accused of violating the ceasefire and risking the lives of the prisoners, according to Hamas.

The captives’ families’ forum in Israel claimed that their greatest fear was real and that Israel’s government had abandoned them.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum stated in a statement that “we are shocked, angry, and scared about the deliberate disruption of the process of returning our loved ones from the terrible captivity of Hamas.”

What caused this to escalate?

We described the negotiations’ results and the claims made by Israel.

In retrospect, Israel may have never intended to end the conflict in Gaza.

Israel refused to declare in writing that it would not resume hostilities after the first phase of a ceasefire when both sides reached a ceasefire.

After receiving verbal assurances from mediators in Egypt, Qatar, and the US, Hamas still agreed to the terms.

The US, which supplies the majority of Israel’s weapons and gives it unwavering support, is the only nation with real leverage against Israel, and it is obvious that it has once more broken its pledge to protect Palestinian lives from illegal – likely criminal – Israeli violence.

But did Israel really say that it was only doing it to protect the prisoners?

That is extremely difficult to believe.

Israel claims that its occupation of Gaza is necessary for its security, and it is a part of a wider conflict that it is waging throughout the region.

Since signing a ceasefire between it and the Lebanese government, it has been bombing southern Lebanon almost exclusively. Four people were killed in two villages on March 16 from the explosion.

Israeli authorities claimed that Israel was killing remnants of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Deraa the same night, but it’s not clear why they are concerned.

In addition, Israel is planning to launch a violent offensive against occupied West Bank refugee camps, purporting to expel Palestinian fighters.
