We’ve Called On Miners In Niger To Use Conventional Ways Of Mining – Gov Bago
Businesses and residents of Niger State are being urged to support what the state government has called a responsible mining policy for their safety.
Governor Umaru Bago made this known when he visited the explosion’s site in Sabon Pegi, Mashegu Local Government Area of the State to offer condolences to the victims and members of the community.
The governor acknowledged that the area has a sizable amount of gold and lithium and is characterised by artisanal mining, which created insecurity there.

Instead of storing their explosives and other dangerous items in their homes, he demanded that people turn them over to a committee made up of security forces, the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, traditional institutions, and other interested parties.
Because we have recognized that the problem of illegal mining and artisanal mining has existed for a very long time, there hasn’t been much attention to it, we have been able to reorganize the miners in Niger State.
“We now have a large number of people with kidney and renal failures because their waters are polluted, the environment is degraded, and dangerous items are found in their homes.” So, we have called on them to use the conventional ways of mining, “Governor Bago said.
The governor made a donation totaling 174 million dollars to the dynamite explosion victims.
The Governor outlined the donation amounts of 5 million each to those whose homes were completely destroyed, 2 million to those whose damaged homes, 1 million to those who were injured, 2 million to the deceased’s families, and 1 million each to those whose vehicles were damaged.
He stated that the money’s purpose is to give victims comfort, and that a committee will be established to oversee its prudent use.
