West End star blinded in random horror attack as thug smashes through car window
After a horrifying attack while waiting at traffic lights, a West End star was left blind in one eye.
After a thug smashed a metal object through his van window in East London, Mike Holoway, 63, needed stitches for his right eye ball. In an effort to save his eye sight, Mike has needed three more operations over the course of a nine-month period as a result of the incident.
Mike, who spent four years as the lead in Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat, believes that his attack was an attempted robbery.
Mike called the weeks that followed a “roller coaster” after the attack took place on December 18. He explained how his eye is stable on Instagram, but he claimed that he still has “many months to heal.”
Speaking to the Sun, Mike described the ordeal, saying a man “smashed his first through the driver’s side window”. He claimed that his face was struck directly in the face and that the passenger seat was knocked across.
“I had to have metallic fragments pulled out of my face”, he said. “You think you know how you can react in these situations. But I saw stars. I didn’t know what the hell was going on”.
The attacker targeted Mike in his car while he was reportedly holding a knuckle-duster or other small-weighted metal object. The attacker, who was then driven off in his own van, is claimed by a GoFundMe page set up by Mike’s wife, which claims the traffic started again spooking him.
She wrote, “Mike’s life was turned upside down in a matter of seconds, and over the past month, between several trips to Moorfields for appointments and checkups, the gravity of the situation has started to sink in and sometimes it is overwhelming. It is deeply unfair that justice won’t be served,” she continued.
Mike praised his “angel of the day”, a witness called Bobby, who made sure he got to hospital following the incident. Due to a number of scans and tests, Mike was forced to spend more than seven hours in A&, E. It’s unknown how much of his vision will eventually return after being moved to an eye hospital for surgery.
“I’ve got to have a lens replacement. I’ve got to get a cornea donor. I’ve got to have a cornea replacement”, he explained. “My eye is currently being anchored by six stitches. I’m on painkillers all day, every day for the first five weeks of it happening. It’s a bit of a blur. My wife Emma has been incredible”.
Despite the ordeal, he managed to enjoy his birthday over the weekend and still appeared happy. His eye was severely bandaged, and he was standing next to birthday balloons. On his GoFundMe page, he also provided an update to thank users who had contributed and supported him. He continued, “Things are improving well for me,” in the Instagram upload.
After thanking the Moorfields Eye Hospital once again, he continued to tell his supporters: “Thank you, I love you all”.
