‘We tried Bellissima’s new wet-to-dry hair straightener that’s cheaper than Dyson’

There has been skepticism about wet-to-dry straighteners for a long time. Many (including our shopping team) worry that their products are more likely to fumble valuable strands than to deliver the desired sleek, glossy finish, causing irreparable damage to years of diligent hair care.
However, that may change with the arrival of Bellissima Italia’s AirSleek, its most recent product. With less extreme heat and less extreme heat, this cutting-edge hair tool can “create dry and beautifully straight locks” without causing any damage to your tresses.
The AirSleek’s two-plated design, like many others, combines drying and straightening in one. The bristled plate smooths and straightens your hair while the air travels through it. If strands are already dry, it also serves as an air straightener for quick touch-ups throughout the day, which is handy if you’re struggling with mid-afternoon frizz.
I’ve been using this affordable sulfate-free shampoo for weeks, and my hair feels so good.
Jennifer Metcalfe swears by this volumizing spray for her “done undone” hair, according to Hollyoaks.
The best of all? The AirSleek retails for £149.99, which is significantly less expensive than Dyson’s Airstrait, which is currently available for sale at Argos for £379.99 (was £400).
Shopping writers Lauren and Phoebe put the AirSleek to the test while being on hand to review the most recent releases. Which would be their favorite heat-damaging nightmare or the hair tool of their dreams? Find out, let’s find out.
honest evaluation by Lauren
The AirSleek appeared a little bulky initially, but having previously fallen in love with Bellissima’s Prodigy Air Multi Style (it consistently gives my typically limp locks the volume of its life), I was able to trust the process.

I must admit that I was a little cautious because I’ve never used wet-to-dry straighteners before, and the frightful tales about frying your hair while styling aren’t comforting. I spritzed on a lot of heat protection spray, which I always advise, no matter what tool you’re using, along with my favorite Lush leave-in conditioner in order to be safe.
The AirSleek was surprisingly simple to use once it was plugged in: you had to section your hair, clamp it between the plates, glide down, and it dried, straightened, and dried in a single blow.
My locks needed three or four swipes to feel completely dry, and I soon realized that my hair wasn’t turning heads because it wasn’t. It actually felt and appeared silky and smooth.
It has a significant impact on speed. In less than five minutes, my entire head was polished and dry, which is roughly half the time it would normally take to blow dry and straighten with my dependable ghds.
Despite that, I had a difficult time with my fringe. I turned to my Prodigy Styler to finish the job because it lacked the bounce I desired despite several attempts. Given AirSleek’s promise to simplify styling, it isn’t a deal-breaker, but having a second tool to polish the finish was a little frustrating.

The weight of AirSleek is, however, my main gripe. My arm started to hurt after a short while, and I was immediately wondering if I should take a break. This is something to keep in mind if you have a lot of hair to style.
The AirSleek fulfills its goals despite its bulk. It’s much quicker, more effective, and gentler on locks than I had anticipated. It costs less than brands like Dyson and GHD, which makes it a strong contender if you want to save time (and money) on your styling routine.
honest evaluation from Phoebe
I was intrigued when I learned about the Bellissima AirSleek because I’ve never used one before. Although my hair is naturally straight, layers and a fringe added recently resulted in it being cut short. Since then, I’ve been forced to straighten my hair mostly because layers and fringe drool.

I’ve already had a go-to review of Bellissima’s products because the company’s Italia Gemini Lightweight Hairdryer is my all-time favorite (read my review here). I typically use my GHD hair straightener to smooth over my layers and style my fringe before using my GHD hair straightener. If the 2-in-1 AirSleek could accomplish all of this while reducing my time, I was curious.
I applied the HASK Keratin Smooth 5-in-1 Spray and detangler to my hair after using the HASK Keratin Smooth Shampoo and HASK Keratin Smooth Conditioner. I cut my hair into two sections before heading home.
The AirSleek’s cord, which runs right across my bedroom from the socket to my dressing table on the other side of the room, was the first thing I noticed. It was heavier than I anticipated when I picked it up, and the shape is quite bulky, making it a little uncomfortable to hold.
I first applied AirSleek to the underside of my hair, placing it at the root of a section, and gradually curving the device to the tip to make my hair sit neatly inwards. I repeated this to the top of my hair before moving my fringe inward.
I had to go over each section twice to make sure it was completely dry, but I was surprised how neatly the layers of my hair were straightened. My hair appeared voluminously and smooth without any frizz after washing it, and it looked even more voluminous.

Unfortunately, because the AirSleek’s plates couldn’t quite get to them because of the tool’s bulkiness, I had to blow my hair’s roots with my Bellissima hair dryer afterward because they remained damp. My fringe was straightened by the AirSleek, but it was too thin for me to style it using my GHDS.
The AirSleek straightens the hair at once, which makes it quicker over time than my hair dryer usually would, but it does so at the same time. You don’t need to brush your hair while using the gadget, which is great because it keeps your hair smooth and tangled.
Although I liked the option to choose the fan speeds and heat temperatures, my Bellissima hair dryer didn’t get as hot or as powerful. I’m sure I’ll get used to this over time, but my wrists did a little hurt after that because of how heavy and bulky it was.

I was impressed with how curly, smooth, and volumizing my hair overall. Because I don’t use a lot of heat, I’m hoping that my hair will feel healthier if I use it instead of using hair straighteners. For those with naturally curly hair who want to save time or those with damaged hair who want a substitute for a hot hair straightener, I think the styling tool could be more beneficial.
For £149.99, you can purchase the Bellissima AirSleek here. Dyson’s Airstrait is currently on sale at Argos for £379.99, down from £400, if you’d like to buy other styling tools. It smooths and straightens hair from wet to dry using “powerful, directional airflow.”
The Revlon One-Step Air Straight 2-in-1 Dryer & Air Straightener is available for a reduced price of £56.56 if you’re looking for a more affordable styling tool. This tool aims to dry, straighten, smooth, and improve the shine of your hair at the same time.
