Wayne Rooney’s low-key support for Coleen on I’m A Celeb after coming under fire

As he appealed to I’m a Celebrity fans to vote for his wife, Wayne Rooney has publicly backed his wife Coleen.

Some fans on social media criticized the 39-year-old football manager for sharing messages of support for Coleen, 38, as she continues to spend time in the Australian jungle. She went far beyond what she expected and tweeted an image of herself encouraging her supporters on Thursday, saying, “She’s done unbelievable.” We want to see her go all the way now and are proud of her. Please cast your vote to keep Coleen in the jungle. 5 free votes on the @imacelebrity app”.

Some fans expressed disappointment that he took the time to support Coleen while Plymouth Argyle, the team he runs, is EFL Championship-winning. Imagine your manager tweeting this during a championship relegation scrap, one user wrote on X, which was previously known as Twitter.

Another wrote: “Can’t wait to see his tweet tomorrow, when they’re home to Oxford”. One more said: “He needs a win in whatever way he can”. But other fans came to Wayne’s defence as one wrote: “He’s proud of his wife. Good on him”.

Another commentator said, “Football fans believe that managers and players should concentrate on football 24/7 and completely ignore their families because they are in a relegation scrap.” And one more commented: “Imagine being a supportive husband as well as doing your job, unbelievable I know”.

However, some football fans’ criticism of Wayne’s actions prevented him from backing Coleen, and he even chose to re-share a post that had previously been posted on his wife’s Instagram account rather than express his own condolences. It read: “Emotional night. The best mum ever! Voting is now open for the final three. In the @imacelebrity app, kindly vote Coleen. FREE votes”!

It comes after Coleen’s sons and mother paid her a surprise visit to the I’m a Celeb camp. Her children couldn’t help but be open and honest with their mother with a vicious dig despite their high emotions. The boys made Coleen shed more tears after sneaking up on her while she spoke with her mother Colette. But as they embraced in a hug, one of her sons was heard cheekily saying: “You stink”.

He then excitedly told his mum: “I won city”, and told her he scored. Coleen then reassured her kids: “I’m crying because I’m happy, because I’ve missed you so much”! Fans of her son’s dig on Twitter/X were enthralled. One user wrote: “Coleen, with tears in her eyes”, Oh my god, how are you? I’ve missed you! “Her eldest, unfazed:” You stink! “Only kids could break the jungle’s emotional barrier with brutal honesty”!
