After WillGriff John was ruled out of Wales’ opening game against France in Paris on Friday, Wales have named uncapped tight-head prop Ben Warren to their Six Nations squad.
After leaving the field on Sunday during the first half of Sale Sharks’ 32-23 home English Premiership defeat by Bath, John, 32, was denied a head injury assessment.
John was one of three tight-head props initially named in Warren Gatland’s squad alongside Cardiff’s Keiron Assiratti and Henry Thomas of Scarlets.
Warren, 24, will become the fourth option in the now 35-man squad.
With Leon Brown recently retiring and Bath’s Archie Griffin having shoulder surgery, the number three jersey is problematic for Wales.
John hasn’t played for Wales since 2021, and he only made four more starts this season for the Sale with four more starts in place of his previous ones when he faced Bath.
Assiratti and Griffin were the second-choice players for Wales’ autumn internationals, and Thomas was a bench player as they finished 2024 without a victory.
