VIDEO: FG Announces Plans To End Visa-On-Arrival Policy
The Federal Government made the announcement on Friday that it would revoke the visa-on-arrival policy.
During the closing ceremony of a weeklong capacity-building training for Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS staff), the minister of interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement.
One of the ways the NIS is documenting all its visits is the capacity-building training.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration introduced the visa-on-arrival policy in 2020 as a short-stay visa issued at the point of entry.
In place of the visa-on-arrival policy, the Federal Government would implement landing and exit cards, which prospective visitors would pre-fill before entering the nation, according to Tunji-Ojo.
He emphasized the need for a unified immigration data center and integrated solutions for making immigration-related decisions.
He explained that harmonising regulations would prevent approvals from being issued without the approval of Interpol, the criminal justice system, and all background-checking organizations in real-time.
You can’t afford to be 99.9% accurate in any industry, not in security. You just have to be 100 percent. We believe that it is better for us to take decisions based on objectivity rather than subjectivity”, Tunji-Ojo said.
“And of course, that will cause the visa-on-arrival process to be canceled because, as we understand it, the visa-on-arrival system doesn’t work because I don’t want you to just enter my country without me knowing that you are.
” No, it is never done anywhere, and of course, we are also introducing what we call the landing and exit card.
