Due to the wounds sustained in the collision, which occurred shortly after former Casualty actress Amanda Mealing had taken cocaine, Mark Le Sage had to stop working as a nurse.

Following the car crash in Lincolnshire, Mark Le Sage has spoken out.

The dad who was knocked unconscious when Casualty actress Amanda Mealing ploughed into his car while high on cocaine considers himself lucky to be alive.

Mark Le Sage, 58, was seriously injured after Mealing careered her Mini into the man’s oncoming Skoda. A court heard Mealing, 57, was dealing with the traumatic deaths of her father, her best friend and her dog when she took the Class A drug the night before the smash. Mr Le Sage, who had to give up his career as a theatre nurse due to his injuries, believes the outcome could have been far worse had he not been driving such a powerful car. The 1.6ton Skoda Kodiaq is the firm’s largest SUV.

But the father of three nearly drove his motorbike instead on January 26 last year – and last night expressed his huge relief he chose the large SUV. He spoke to the media after Mealing admitted to driving under the influence of cocaine and driving without due care and attention, appearing in court under her married name of Amanda Sainsbury. The actress has been banned from driving for 22 months and orders to pay £485 in fines.

Mr. Le Sage, who has five grandchildren, said: “I was very lucky I was in such a big car that I almost took my motorbike out that day.

She hit the front corner of my car as I turned around and “bang” it just in front of me… Although I believed the car was in flames and that I had to leave, my right foot was trapped beneath the pedal. I believe I felt a surge of adrenaline and was able to release myself. Although the car’s driver side was smashed, I escaped and plunged into the road by myself. I have a great chance. Afterward, the fire brigade explained to me that the story might have been different if I had driven a smaller car. “

At 10 o’clock, the smash occurred. In Deeping St Nicholas, Lincolnshire, at 14 a.m. on January 26 last year, just yards from Mealing’s front door. The actress suffered a head cut, a broken wrist, and a broken clavicle thanks to her role in Casualty as the cardio thoracic consultant Connie Beauchamp.

According to the court, Mealing, a mother-of-two, had 18 mcg of cocaine in her blood, with a 10 mcg legal limit. Additionally, the amount of benzoylecgonine, a chemical that cocaine leaves after it has been metabolized in the body, exceeded 240 mg. This exceeds the legal legal limit of 50 mcg almost five times.

Incredibly, once free from the wreckage, Mr Le Sage’s thoughts turned to helping the woman who had caused the crash. He told the Daily Mail: “I looked over and saw she had blood running down the left side of her face… Luckly, there was an off-duty firefighter following my car and he had pulled over to give her first aid. I think my nursing instincts kicked in – I went over to see her. She was still sat in her car. I had to make sure she was OK.”

Mr. Le Sage, a former councillor, was given a medical evaluation and advised to go to the hospital, but it was later discovered that the ambulance that had been given to him had been diverted to a different emergency, prompting him to make his own way to the hospital, where it is said he was taken to be checked over. According to what I understand, another ambulance transported Mealing to the hospital, and an air ambulance also arrived.

On Friday, Le Sage informed the prosecution that he did not want Mealing to be imprisoned for the collision. The actress’s lawyer cited the woman’s personal tragedy of losing her 32-year-old brother to substance abuse, saying that she is “deeply ashamed” of the crimes.
