US Chief Justice John Roberts slams Trump’s call to impeach a federal judge

Donald Trump, the most powerful justice justice system in the world, has issued a remark criticizing him for calling for the impeachment of a federal judge in a ominous statement.

Two brief lines, none of which mention Trump directly, were released on Tuesday by Chief Justice John Roberts.

However, his message was clear: Impeachment of a federal judge is unacceptable.

It has been proven for more than two centuries that impeachment is inappropriate in response to disagreements over a judicial decision. The statement read, “The standard appellate review procedure exists for that reason.”

Roberts’ comments came shortly after Trump’s own social media posticious attack on federal district court judge James E. Boasberg.

In a lengthy post that appeared to argue that presidential authority replaced judicial power, Trump wrote, “This Radical Left Lunatic of a Judge, a troublemaker and agitator was not elected President.” He “didn’t win the popular vote,” he claimed.

According to the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, which allows wartime presidents to detain and deport foreign nationals from a “hostile nation,” Boasberg recently ordered the Trump administration to stop deportations.

The act had only been used three times before and only once during a war, with World War II’s forced incarceration of Japanese Americans and foreigners.

Some people speculated that the Trump administration had openly violated Boasberg’s orders after the Trump administration started deporting people on Saturday evening.

Boasberg has not yet decided whether the Trump administration disobeyed the court’s instructions. However, he has requested that US Department of Justice attorneys provide a timeline of the deportation flights’ arrival along with other details regarding Saturday night’s events.

Trump, however, requested that Boasberg be fired from his position, which has been filled by Republican and Democratic presidents.

“I’m forced to appear before a lot of the Crooked Judges, but this judge deserves to be impeachable!” Trump wrote on Tuesday morning.

Although these circumstances are uncommon, Congress does have the authority to remove federal judges.

G Thomas Porteous, who served in the eastern district of Louisiana, was the most recent federal judge to be impeached. He was charged with accepting bribes and making false statements, which led to his ouster in 2010.

Trump has threatened this in the past, though. For instance, Trump demanded the impeachment of both the judge in the case and the lead prosecutor in November 2023 as he faced a civil investigation into alleged fraud at the Trump Organization.

Judge [Arthur] Engoron and Letitia James should be impeached and fired from office, he wrote, “[for]fraudfully reducing my Asset Values, by many times, in order to hurt and demonize me””.

However, many of Trump’s controversial policy changes have been subject to a litany of legal challenges since taking office for a second term on January 20.

Republicans are backing him, echoing his criticism of various judges as being biased and corrupt.

A new wave of such rhetoric has been spawned by Boasberg’s order on Saturday, with several right-wingers calling for his removal.

Another judge makes a unilateral decision regarding the country’s entire policy on another day. Senator Chuck Grassley posted a message on social media praising “this time to benefit foreign gang members.”

Representative Brandon Gill claimed that he had filed articles of impeachment against the “radical activist” Boasberg in the House of Representatives.

Gill posted on his social media account on Tuesday, saying that he should be fired for committing high crimes and misdemeanors.

Elon Musk, a White House adviser and donor to Trump’s re-election campaign, also made an observation on Monday.

On his social media platform X, Musk wrote that “the very worst judges – those who repeatedly break the law should at least be put to an impeachment vote, regardless of whether it is approved or not.”

However, Chief Justice Roberts has long defended such pressure on the court system.

Roberts similarly denounced attempts by lawmakers to force impeachment on political grounds last year in his year-end report.

Regrettably, public officials have attempted to intimidate judges in recent attempts, including making allegations of political bias in the judge’s adverse decisions without providing any evidence to support their claims, according to Roberts.

“State and federal bar associations have seen the need to defend a federal district judge whose decisions in a controversial case prompted an elected official to demand her impeachment over the past year.” Judges should be harshly opposed to intimidation attempts because they are improper in making decisions in cases.

The American Bar Association has taken note of this trend as Trump’s second term progresses.

The organization claimed in a statement on March 3 that “corrupt judges” have been impeached despite attempts to establish proof of the so-called “corruption.”
