
Following a Max Air flight’s incident involving a tyre burst on Tuesday night, the runway at Kano Airport has been temporarily closed.
A Max Air plane, carrying 53 passengers, experienced a tyre burst during landing at Mallam Aminu International Airport in Kano at 10: 57pm.
Fortunately, the incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, did not result in any casualties, averting a potential disaster.
On Wednesday, Max Air announced the temporary closure of the runway at Kano Airport for its X account.
“As a result, the Kano runway will remain temporarily closed for inspection and clearance, which may lead to delays in flight operations today, Wednesday, 29/01/2024.
As we wait for updates on the runway reopening, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you may have caused.
“Our crew handled the situation professionally, ensuring the safe evacuation of all passengers and crew members. There were no injuries, and the aircraft has since been removed from the runway as of 04: 28”, the airline said.
Max Air thanked its engineering team for responding to the incident quickly, and assured its customers that status updates for flight schedules would soon be made available.
Additionally, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) confirmed on Wednesday via its official X account that Max Air Flight VM1605, with registration number, was involved in the incident. 5N-MBD.
As stated by the NCAA, “The pilot, cabin crew, and all 53 passengers were safely disembarked with no injuries recorded.
“Taxiway B has taken the aircraft off the runway.
Before the runway is opened, the NCAA has mandated that a thorough runway inspection be conducted.
” The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has taken charge of the investigation. “
Recent airport accidents have been common.
A United Airlines Boeing 787-8 aircraft made an emergency return to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on January 23, injuring 39 passengers and crew members shortly after taking off for Washington Dulles International Airport.
According to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), there were 245 passengers and 11 crew members.
