A former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Chidoka, who was also the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), disclosed this during his appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday.

He stated that he is leaving politics to concentrate on his non-profitable research organization, the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, in order to collaborate with other Nigerians interested in changing the political system there.

I formally resigned from the PDP by sending a letter to my ward in Anambra State earlier today. I am leaving the PDP, I am leaving politic for some time, I am focusing on the Athena Centre”, Chidoka said on the programme.

“I will work with other Nigerians to support and reform the political system,” he said. So, effective today, I am no longer a member of the Peoples Democratic Party”.

Chidoka thanked the party for the opportunity it gave him to serve the nation in a variety of capacities in the resignation letter that was sent to the PDP Chairman of Obosi Ward in Anambra State.

He recalls that before joining the party, he held the positions of FRSC Corps Marshal and senior minister.

He claimed, however, that the Athena Center demands his full attention and that he must adopt a neutral position that is free of political bias.

“Edo election compromised”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, the winner, beating PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo, in a recent review of the governorship election that Athena Centre founded by Chidoka.

The Athena Centre indicted INEC, stating that the election was compromised.

According to Chidoka, who presented the Centre’s findings on the Edo State election, there was substantial evidence of systemic rigging.

We are unable to call the results because of the overwhelming evidence of systemic rigging in this election.

We believe that this election should not be halted because of the substantial evidence of systemic rigging. If this stands, then there is no election in 2027. “

He expressed his shock at the election-related impact on an organization like INEC.

The former minister claimed that voter accreditation practices were inconsistent and that the election was not transparent.

He also alleged that there were instances of ward collation centers’ abuses, overvoting, and other violations of the BVAS accreditation record, and that INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) was not made available.

He claimed that there were no results from 153 polling stations because they had not been accounted for.
