UPDATED: Atiku, El-Rufai, Lawal, Coalition Of Political Leaders Reject State Of Emergency In Rivers

The establishment of a state of emergency in Rivers State has been opposed by the Coalition of Opposition Political Leaders, which includes former vice president Atiku, former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, former secretary of the Federation, Babachair Lawal, and some Labour Party (LP) leaders.
Following the oil-rich state’s political crisis, President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday issued a statement of emergency in Rivers State. Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and the Rivers State House of Assembly members were also suspended for six months.
However, the coalition claimed President Tinubu’s actions were unconstitutional during a Thursday briefing in Abuja.

The president’s reliance on the Constitution’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers was erred, according to the coalition. The group requested that the action be immediately reversed. It demanded that the judiciary intervene quickly by halting the move and the National Assembly reject the declaration.
Additionally, the organization demanded that citizens and civil society organizations speak out and support democracy.
The coalition urged Nigerians to bear witness to the Niger Delta’s historic unrest, which had only been managed by previous administrations’ efforts and sacrifices.
The Niger Delta’s fragile stability could be threatened by the Federal Government’s “manufacture” of a political crisis.
Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (rtd) was appointed the state’s sole administrator after the declaration. On Wednesday, he wore him to the State House in Abuja.  ,
