UN Resident Coordinator Mohamed Fall Begins Two-Day Visit To Rivers State

Mohamed Fall, the Nigerian representative and humanitarian coordinator, has made an official visit to Rivers State to review ongoing projects and strengthen collaboration with stakeholders.

The visit began with an engagement at the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) office in Port Harcourt, where he was received by the Project Coordinator, Nenibarini Zabbey.

Fall was briefed on the challenges and progress made in restoring mangroves, shorelines, and livelihoods in Ogoni communities.

After meeting with UN team members, he said, “It’s always a good feeling to work with UN staff on the ground.”

He urged them to increase their support for Nigeria in order to accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and praised their commitment and sacrifices made in their service to communities, even in difficult circumstances.

“I am impressed by the high turnout of women-led CSOs. I underscored the importance of civil society, especially women-led initiatives, in driving development”, he said.

Discussions covered key issues such as gender equality, people living with HIV (PLHIV), improved agricultural seedlings, inclusion, and gender-based violence (GBV).

Fall, alongside Nigeria’s Minister of Environment and HYPREP management, is set to visit Beeri (Khana) and Bunu (Tai) for the commissioning of water projects.
