On Tuesday, two gasoline-laden tankers were gutted at a Jezco station near the Yola International Airport near the MRS filling station along the Numan Road.

As irate residents of the area rushed out to see the inferno, ignoring the inherent danger, the road leading to Yola, the state capital, was blocked.

The fire had consumed two fuel tankers at the time of writing, but fire service personnel have been standing by the scene.

The emergency responders have begun containing the fire, but it appears they are running out of water.

Additionally, security personnel have arrived at the scene to secure the area.

Nigeria, the most populous nation in Africa, is currently experiencing its worst economic crisis in a generation, when tanker explosions occurred at a time when petrol has become a precious commodity.

In January 2025, at least 11 persons were killed when a petrol-laden tanker exploded along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

The tanker was said to have suffered brake failure, tumbled, and had its content spilled, erupting in an explosion.

At least five people were killed earlier in the Delta State Agbor area in January 2025 when a tanker loaded with gasoline lost control and blew up in flames.

In October 2024, a fuel tanker explosion in Jigawa State killed more than 170 people, with scores injured.
