Two Catholic Nuns Kidnapped In Anambra, Police Begin Rescue Operation
Two Catholic nuns have been kidnapped by gunmen in the Anambra State Local Government Area of Orumba North along Ufuma Road.
The victims were abducted late on Tuesday at the Ogboji community in Orumba North LGA, where they were returning from the meeting of their vocational association.
The Secretary-General of Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Maria Ikeotuonye, confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Vincentia Nwankwo and Grace Okoli were the victims, according to her identification.
“With sadness, we write to inform the general public of the kidnap of our two sisters Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli yesterday evening, Tuesday, 7 January, 2025”, the statement read.
Both Sr. Okonkwo and Sr. Okoli are teachers at Immaculata Girls Model Secondary School Nnewi and Archbishop Charles Harvey Memorial Model School Ufuma.
On their way back from the Ogboji meeting of their Vocational Association, they were kidnapped along Ufuma Road.
“We applaud our sisters for their swift release from the clutches of their kidnappers,” our Blessed Mother Mary’s powerful intercession declared.
We ask that you make sincere requests for their release as soon as possible and to return to us in good health.

Ikeotuonye also prayed that the victims be released soon and unconditionally.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Anambra State Police Command also confirmed the abduction.
Tochukwu Ikenga, a command spokesman, claimed the police have started a joint operation to possibly rescue the abducted victims.
According to Ikenga, a police-led joint operation is already underway to rescue two Catholic nuns who are allegedly abducted along Ufuma Road in Orumba North Local Government.
The nuns were returning from a vocational service meeting in Ogboji on the evening of yesterday, 7/1/2025, for a sad incident.
Ikenga claimed that the CP Nnaghe Itam, the commissioner of police, and the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, had visited the location for a spot assessment.
