Trends, trash and truth: Fast fashion phenomena

Clothing has become more affordable thanks to fast fashion, but exploitative labor practices and environmental destruction are at the core of the low prices. While textile waste pollutes ecosystems, workers in the Global South are paid low salaries and frequently work in unsafe conditions. Slow fashion promotes sustainability and fair wages, but is it accessible to everyone as consumers push for ethical alternatives? Can consumer preferences lead to real change, or does the sector require systemic change? We examine the high cost of affordable clothing.
