Fans of the Traitors just realized they can go to one of the show’s most famous locations, but only under one rule.

Claudia Winkleman invited 22 dedicated players to the Scottish Highlands for four weeks of murder mystery action in the third season, the fourth episode of which will air on BBC One at 9pm tonight (Wednesday, January 8). The episode has been referred to as the “ultimate reality game of detection, backstabbing, and trust.”

The contestants are divided into Faithfuls and Traitors, who are unidentified and attempt to weed out the former while the Traitors “murd” or kill one Faithful every night.

On January 1st, a staggering 5.4 million people tuned in to watch episode 1. While the show’s nail-biting missions, dramatic round tables and hair-raising murders are enough to entice any viewer, its stunning scenery has also proven a draw for fans.

Filming takes place at various locations, with much of the series recorded at Ardross Castle, about 30 minutes north of Inverness. A sprawling estate with more than 100 acres of land surrounds the 19th-century property. It is privately owned and, sadly, not open to the general public, nor can you spend the night there.

“The Castle is not a hotel and we do not let individual rooms”, it says on its website. However, the castle is accessible for hire for private events, specifically weddings, if you have deep pockets and are really interested in wandering those hallowed corridors.

Every wedding at the castle is unique, as pre-packaged ceremonies are not available. The grounds are available ‘ as is’, meaning catering is not provided.

However, Ardross Castle is the ideal setting for any Traitors fan’s big day with bedrooms and private suites available for the bridal party, indoor or outdoor ceremonies, and a Great Hall with space for up to 130 guests and accommodations for up to 41 people.

If you’re keen to book the estate, you can contact the castle through a contact form on its website. According to the article, “The castle and estate are privately owned, so there are no facilities for private tours or visits.”

Following the debut of Series Three, a TikTok video was released that showed the castle’s now-famous outdoor steps covered in snow. The Castles of Scotland account, who posted the clip, said: “Ardross Castle lies north-west of Alness, in the Averon valley. In the late 1700s, it was originally intended as a hunting lodge for the 1st Duke of Sutherland.

The caption went on to outline the castle’s history, with the Second Duke of Sutherland having sold the estate in 1845 to Alexander Matheson. He later acquired the 60, 000-acre Ardross Estate for $90,000, according to the article.

Following Sir Alexander’s death, his son – Sir Kenneth Matheson – sold the estate to businessman and Captain in the Highland Light Infantry C. Dyson Perrins.

In 1937, the estate was divided and sold. The castle itself, along with Lealty Farm and more than 80 acres of land, were purchased by Mr and Mrs Austin Mardon, who lived there until 1983. The McTaggart family, the current owners, sold the estate at that time.
