Following his 14th Test defeat in a row, Wales centre Nick Tompkins apologised to the visiting supporters.

After suffering a 22-15 defeat against Italy, which is Wooden Spoon’s first loss in Rome in 18 years, it seems like another Wooden Spoon is on the way.

Wales have now dropped to a new low of 12th in the World Rugby rankings, a place below Georgia, after an eighth Six Nations loss on the bounce.

When asked what was his message to fans, Tompkins said: “It’s amazing. You want to say sorry.

We appreciate their ongoing assistance. They continue to support and demonstrate what an amazing country Wales is, despite the fact that we are aware of the current difficult times.

Tompkins admits Wales ‘ current situation is “devastating”.

It’s difficult to put something particular on it. We are frustrated. It’s devastating”, said Tompkins.

“The camp is full of frustration and disappointment,” he said. The boys are working so hard, but it’s not quite coming off.

” The lads care a lot and when it doesn’t come off you’re gutted, and you know how hard it is for the fans as well.

Next up is defending champions Ireland, followed by Scotland at Murrayfield before the Cardiff finale against England on March 15.

With Warren Gatland’s tenure as head coach looking more precarious than ever, a win for Wales will rank as a major surprise.

Since taking over for a second time in charge, Gatland has won just six Test victories.

“You can’t hide from the outcomes of what is going on”, said Tompkins.

“When we say the preparation is going well, we’re working really hard in training. I promise you it’s not going undone.

“We must continue to try, and hopefully something will happen.”

“I get there is frustration, but it’s not as easy as saying it’s one thing or the other. It’s everyone together.
