Tinubu Swears In Ibok-ete Ibas As Rivers Sole Administrator

Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (rtd.) has been sworn in by President Bola Tinubu. as Rivers State’s sole administrator. &nbsp,

Following a brief briefing with the president on Wednesday afternoon, the administrator was sworn in.

At a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday, Tinubu announced the appointment of the retired naval officer and suspended governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

According to Tinubu, who relyed on Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution to support his position, he can’t continue to observe the political deterioration in Rivers.

Numerous prominent Nigerians, legal luminaries, organizations like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Femi Falana, the Labour Party (LP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Nigerian Bar Association, among others, expressly reject and condemn the suspension of Fubara and other democratically elected representatives.

The pro-Nyesom Wike Assembly, led by Martins Amaewhule, accuses Fubara of violating the state’s political situation, and supports the emergency rule.

From 2015 to 2021, Ibas served as the ship’s chief of staff. He was born in Cross River, where he is from, and received his early education there.

The new sole administrator rose to the top of the ranks at the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1979, where he continued to have a successful career.

He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management and the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs.
