
The Federal University of Environment and Technology in Ogoni, Rivers State, was established by President Bola Tinubu, who made history by signing the bill into law.

The State House in Abuja hosted the signing ceremony, confirming the administration’s commitment to ending past injustices and encouraging inclusive development.
The event was attended by key dignitaries, including Sen. Mpigi Barinada, the National Security Adviser, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, and the Minister of Education.
The President’s “promise kept by President Tinubu,” according to the Presidency, confirming his unwavering commitment to advancing the Ogoni people’s goals in terms of education and environment.
The new university is expected to play a critical role in environmental research, technology advancement, and human capital development in the region.
According to Persecondnews, it will also serve as a hub for scientific research on environmental issues, particularly oil-related environmental degradation in Ogoniland.
Barinada, a strong advocate of the university, praised the president’s decision, saying, “This is a landmark achievement for the people of Ogoni.
It’s about empowering our youth and giving them the knowledge to restore our land and create a sustainable future, not just about education.
The Ogoni people, who have faced decades of environmental and socio-economic challenges, see the establishment of the university as a crucial step towards rehabilitation and development.

Tinubu noted the significance of the university, stating that it marks a” significant milestone in our journey towards environmental justice, education, and sustainable development”.
