President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori have reaffirmed the commitment of both the Federal and State Governments to strengthening the welfare and development of the Nigeria Police Force, as the 15th Biennial Police Games, BIPOGA 2026, was officially flagged off in Asaba.
Represented by the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, the President described the Games as a crucial platform for nurturing a disciplined, professional and results-driven Police Force.
He noted that national security remains fundamental to economic progress, social harmony and public trust.
The President added that true service is measured not by uniform or rank, but by integrity, skill and conduct, in line with the theme of the competition.
In his remarks, Governor Oborevwori assured participating officers and athletes of a well-organised and rewarding sporting experience, highlighting Delta State’s standing as a preferred destination for major sporting events.
He recalled the state’s record of successfully hosting national and continental competitions, noting that Asaba has consistently demonstrated excellence in sports administration.

He urged participants to view the Games as a celebration of strength, discipline, teamwork and excellence, emphasising that giving one’s best is victory in itself.
Also speaking, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun described the Police Games as a cornerstone for promoting unity, professionalism and operational effectiveness within the Force.
He stressed that modern policing requires physical fitness, mental alertness and strong character, while commending Delta State for its hospitality and partnership in advancing youth development and national cohesion.
The 15th edition is currently taking place in Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria, from February 14th to 21st, 2026, themed “Beyond the Badge: Excellence in Action.”
Hosted at the Stephen Keshi Stadium and other venues, the event involves athletes from Zonal Commands and the Force Headquarters competing in 37 sports, including athletics, football, boxing, wrestling, swimming, taekwondo, weightlifting, volleyball, shooting, cycling, and mixed martial arts.
The games aim to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and talent discovery within the Nigeria Police Force.
The previous edition, the 14th Biennial Police Games, “Oluyole 2024,” was held in Ibadan, Oyo State, from February 24 to March 3, 2024.
The Biennial Police Games, which started as an athletics championship in the 1940s and became a biennial event in 1986, have produced notable athletes who represented Nigeria internationally.
