Tinubu Commends Finland For Intervening In Simon Ekpa’s Case
President Bola Tinubu on Friday in Abuja praised the Finish government’s actions and the detention of Simon Ekpa, saying it would not tolerate statements and actions that might cause division among the populace.
President Tinubu spoke when he received the Letters of Credence from the Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms Sanna Selin, at the State House, his spokesperson, Bayo Onanugu disclosed in a statement.
He praised the Finnish government for their prompt response, which both defended the integrity of the country and slowed a course of action that threatened peaceful coexistence.
Tinubu also received Letters of Credence from the Ambassador of the European Union, Mr Gautier Mignot, and the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Algeria, Hocine Mezoued.
“I want to thank you for your efforts to protect human rights in our nation through Simon Ekpa’s trial. Nigeria is indivisible. We have been through turbulent times, and we don’t want to promote terrorism”, President Tinubu told the Finnish ambassador.
“I am a child born into activism, but not divisiveness. To promote development, cohesion and cooperation are necessary. Stability and cohesion are what we strive for in order to advance the nation.
” The National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has informed me. The definition of the rule of law is unknown to me. The rule of law safeguards our democratic credentials, morals and values. We must respect the rule of law, “the President said.
The President noted that the Ambassador’s priorities, including ICT, agriculture, and education, will directly impact the country’s development.
Nigeria is going through a number of necessary reforms to encourage economic growth and prosperity. I appreciate your humanitarian assistance in the Northeast. I believe that we can work together, “he added.
According to reports, the Ambassador of Finland praised the President for his bravery in implementing reforms that would boost the economy and ensure future prosperity.
” Simon Ekpa has been hindering bilateral relations. The Ambassador noted that the cooperation between our two countries is currently flourishing and that the National Security Advisor has been providing all the evidence.
I pay you homage to the country’s ongoing reforms. They are not easy. Even though it is painful, it is the only way Nigeria can progress. It is essential for the country.
“Finland has also participated in peace mediation. Nigeria has potential in the energy sector as well. We can work and make it a realisable dream”, she stated.
President Tinubu addressed the European Union’s ambassador to explain that the EU continues to be one of Nigeria’s top trading partners, urging the ambassador to work to increase the volume of transactions and strengthen ties.
He claimed that Nigeria needs assistance with automating and digitalizing the rendering services’ processes.
With its vibrant, youthful population, the President claimed that the Nigerian economy could support investments.
Mignot claimed that Nigeria has “many untapped potentials,” adding that more could be realized through development cooperation and technological leveraging.
“We have a solid partnership based on our shared values”, he said.
In order to implement the trans-Saharan African Gas Pipeline project, President Tinubu urged Nigeria and Algeria to work together.
“We need to lift one another in Africa, and we will be stronger together. We can be abused or ignored, but we have nothing to prove to anyone but ourselves. We must lift Africa together”, the President said.
The continent will be significantly impacted by the proposed regional development projects, including the Trans-Sahara African Gas Pipeline project, according to the Algerian Ambassador.
“I would like to personally, on behalf of the government and people of Algeria, convey the greetings of our president and express my delight in our shared values politically, economically, socially and economically”, he added.
