Thousands Of Flights Cancelled, Delayed Over US Storm
According to airlines and tracking website FlightAware, over 3, 000 flights were canceled on Friday and thousands more were experiencing delays as a result of a storm in the southern United States.
All five runways at Atlanta International Airport were shut down for more than two hours, according to Delta Airlines, because of a “worse-than-expected combination of winter weather.”
“Delta cancelled approximately 1, 100 flights across our network” Friday, the carrier said as it was “working to recover the airline heading into Saturday”.

Due to an engine issue, a Delta plane had to stop landing in Atlanta as well.
More than 200 passengers and crew aboard the Boeing 757-300 had to exit via emergency slides, US media reported citing a company statement.
Dallas Fort Worth (Texas) and Charlotte Douglas (North Carolina) were also affected by the bad weather, with more than 1, 200 flights cancelled across the two airports according to FlightAware.
Over 3, 000 cancellations were reported on Friday through the tracking website, spread out across several airports.
At least five people died in the first week of a winter storm that had already hit the United States, forcing hundreds of flights to be canceled as it swept through the east and center of the nation.
In some places, the temperature dropped below zero Fahrenheit (18 degrees Celsius), leaving tens of thousands without electricity.
