Thirst Among the Ruins

People & Power investigates the war’s beginning and why Israel has been using water in Gaza.

Just before the Israeli water war, the People & Power team traveled to Gaza to document its use of force. Back then, the situation had already begun to seem desperate.

Our team in Gaza searched for the people they met 18 months earlier as a ceasefire was established in January of this year.

The majority of Gaza’s remaining water infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed. Israeli cuts to external water sources and systematic destruction of water sources have resulted in Palestinians in Gaza only getting 2 liters of water per day. Communities are infected with a lot of water-borne diseases.
