Rumors have been circulating about who will play the main characters as the new Harry Potter TV series will be cast now that planning is well underway. However, with worldwide fame often comes fortune and the acting unknowns-for-now could soon be catapulted into the world of mega millions and lavish lifestyles.
While the main characters in all eight wizarding films have had great success in their lives, careers, and bank balances, some unsuspecting ones haven’t fared as well with bailiffs, rehab stints, and little financial gain – with one earning a meager £2.91 per hour.
We delves in-depth into the fortunes of the well-known wizards, witches, and mugglers, moving from the richest to the less fortunate…
Daniel Radcliffe – £96.3 million
Daniel, who reportedly earned £1 million for the first movie when he was 12 and had made £37.5 million by the final two, was the boy wizard himself, who was the star of all eight movies. He now has more than $96 million in assets, earning him the desired position on the Sunday Times 40 Under 40 Rich List.
Nothing has been as notably blockbuster as Daniel’s portrayal of Harry Potter, despite his roles in The Woman in Black and Batso and Ethan Hawke.
Daniel’s true wealth lies in his savvy business and financial decisions, which are away from the spotlight. The actor, who was born in Fulham, most of his wealth is invested in Gilmore Jacobs Limited, a 2000-founded investment firm founded by his parents, which invests in both theater and real estate.
Talking about his disagreements with JK Rowling, Daniel has previously acknowledged that “nothing in my life” is likely to have happened without her, but he insists that he didn’t have to compromise what he truly believes and said, “Transgender women are women.
Daniel now lives between West London and New York’s trendy West Village, alongside his one-year-old son and partner, Erin Darke.
Robert Pattison – £80 million
Robert Pattison, who is more well-known for his roles in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire at age 17, made his big break as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter And the Goblet of Fire at age 17. He made a lot of money, and he admitted to GQ Magazine that he “spent a lot of time living off of the Harry Potter money.”

Being cast as the snotty know-it-all Hermione Granger at just 10 years old was the making of the now 34-year-old Emma Watson. Hitting number 39 on the Sunday Times 40 under 40 list – just below Daniel – she has accrued around £67 million.
The movie franchise earned her £49 million – with a massive £24 million chunk coming from The Deathly Hallows, Part 1 and 2 alone. Disney, who offered her £17 million to play Belle in the blockbuster Beauty and the Beast, and who later made her £3 million from the Little Women 2019 adaptation, caught her attention and attracted her attention.
Emma’s fans are particularly fond of her woke credentials—she is not JK Rowling’s biggest fan and calls herself ‘ self-partnered ‘ rather than single.
Big news in the world of fashion and beauty, Emma has also been the face of Lancome, Burberry, and Prada Beauty, to name a few, and was appointed the youngest member of the boards of directors of Kering, which owns Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent.
As a child, Emma was off to a flying start, attending the aptly named Dragon School in Oxford. The daughter of lawyers, Emma has an investment company and launched Renais, a Dorset-based gin distillery.
Rupert Grint – £40 million
The 36-year-old made £21 million playing the hapless red-haired Weasley brother and Harry’s best friend, Ron. But since the movie hit, he has doubled his money. He previously criticized what he had earned during those times, saying, “It was kind of ridiculous what we got.”
Rupert is far kinder on JK Rowling, and whilst not agreeing with her views on women’s rights, he has likened her to a close family member, saying she’s “still my auntie”.
Rupert has appeared in the Netflix’s Cabinet of Curiosities and the Apple TV horror series Servant. Like Daniel and Emma, he also has his finger in property.
The dad of a four-year-old daughter, Wednesday, with long-term partner Georgia Groome, owns Eevil Plan Properties with his father, Nigel, and Clay 10, which manages investments and any film and TV income.
In November last year, Rupert lost a battle with HMRC, meaning he had to pay a £1.8 million tax bill.
Tom Felton – £16 million
Draco Malfoy, a power-hungry bully from a power-hungry school, hasn’t done much since starting acting at age six. Tom first appeared on screens in the 1997 Borrowers movie, despite joining the Harry Potter cast at age 12. He then earned his big break as Draco, where he made his big money, but he admitted to spending a lot of his money on lavish vehicles and expensive gifts in contrast to the top trio and their wise decisions.
“I had been working for eight years, and all I had to show for it was this terrible debt.” At one point we had the bailiff at the door”, he said.
The Slytherin actor, fortunately, turned things around and rebuilt his fortune by appearing in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and making his West End debut with 22.2 A Ghost Story in 2022.

Leeds-born Matthew, 35, starred in all eight movies before going on to star alongside Emilia Clarke in the 2016 hit movie Me Before You. He has also taken his acting skills to the smaller screen, starring in Happy Valley, The Syndicate, Girlfriends and All Creatures Great and Small.
However, the show’s main stars aren’t the only ones who perform well. Katie Leung, who played Harry’s Scottish love interest, Cho Chang, made a cool £4 million having never acted before. At the age of 15, Vanessa Lynch made £3 million playing the eccentric Luna Lovegood.
Sadly, others haven’t faired quite so well. Miriam Margolyes has revealed her involvement with the Harry Potter franchise.
In two of the eight movies based on the best-selling books Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, the actress, 83, played Professor Pomona Sprout.
“I never made Harry Potter millions”, she said. The three or four main characters, in my opinion, did, and they merited it, but not my character.

Extras on set had a tough gig, too. Samantha Clinch from London revealed some behind-the-scenes footage from her time on set as Eloise Midgen at around 5:30 am.
The former child actress admitted she was only paid £35 per day while playing the extra schoolgirl in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. She shared a story in her popular TikTok post that she remembered fighting “heavy, heavy traffic” during rush hour to set a time for an early start and making just £2.91 per hour. She even raised questions about the small fee’s legality.
