Tamim Iqbal suffers heart attack during DPL cricket match

Tamim Iqbal, the former Bangladesh one-day international cricket captain, was taken to the hospital after suffering a heart attack while playing in a domestic match.
On Monday, Tamim, 36, led Mohammedan Sporting Club in a match of the 50-over Dhaka Premier League (DPL).
He won the toss, but he later complained of chest pain. He was taken to a nearby hospital after receiving initial treatment on the field.
He had a heart attack, he said. His heart started to function better, according to Debashis Chowdhury, a medical officer for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), according to the AFP news agency.
A team official, Tariqul Islam, told AFP that Tamim was receiving medical care in Savar, Dhaka’s northern suburbs, and pleaded with the media to pray for his quick recovery.
Due to Tamim’s sudden illness, the BCB called off its scheduled board meeting for the day.
Between 2007 and 2023, Tamim represented Bangladesh in 391 matches across all formats.
He is the only Bangladeshi batsman to score centuries in all three international competitions and has more than 15 000 international runs to his name.
