Susanna Reid’s brutal response to Phillip Schofield’s comeback after controversy
After Phillip Schofield returned to the spotlight, Susan Reid viciously criticizes him.
Good Morning Britain star Susanna, 53, has been helming the morning news show on ITV since 2014 – overlapping with Phil’s 21-year career at flagship daytime show This Morning. The 62-year-old former host fronted the series from 2002 until 2023 and left under a cloud of shame as he admitted having an “unwise, but not illegal” affair with a much younger male colleague behind-the-scenes of This Morning.
Phil made an earlier attempt to restart his television career with the three-parter Cast Away on Channel 5. He spent ten days living on an abandoned island, fending for himself against hunger and the elements, filming himself all the while.
Phil would have been directly across the corridor from Susanna as Both This Morning and Good Morning Britain were shot simultaneously at ITV. Susanna made it clear that she had no connection to the former daytime TV show host in a new interview.
Asked for her opinion about Phillip’s recent Channel 5 show, Susanna bluntly told The Times: “I didn’t watch it, and I don’t know him”. She was also inquired about her experience with Strictly Come Dancing because she participated in the show’s longrunning run in 2013 and has since succumbed to a similar scandal.
Susanna reflected on working with her dance partner Kevin Clifton, 42, and said: “I had such a great experience with him. It is like being on a different planet, because everything sparkles, and so it’s a shame when it doesn’t for other people. I believe it is crucial that those who have had bad experiences are supported and addressed.
While filming Cast Away, Phil hinted he is now done with the world of TV completely. He claimed to the cameras, “Isolation has forced me to consider the past and make important decisions about my future.” I don’t think I want to do it any more. Look, I love telly. I’ve got telly in my bones. But I won’t sit on a sofa again, I’m not going to do that again”.

He added that despite employees expressing their concerns, the “toxic work environment” at This Morning was revealed after he left the show. Phil claimed: “There wasn’t toxicity when I was there, I found out when I left – you are protected from it. I wasn’t sure if there were any particularly difficult people there. When you have given something so much and remained so faithful, you haven’t shown any loyalty to anyone.
He continued, “When I get on that boat and I leave here, I will know that I did my best and I’ve said my piece,” while also explaining his experience on the show. Anyone who’s bitter about that, honestly you can f*** off, because I don’t give a sh**. I quit. Mic drop”.
