As they continue to be friends for the third time since they starred together on the show, Strictly Come Dancing star Nadiya Bychkova has revealed a touching insight into her relationship with ex-celebrity dancer Dan Walker.
The 35-year-old Ukrainian dancer and former BBC Breakfast host Dan, 47, co-starred in the 2021 series of the reality show, which will see them finish fifth overall. But they have remained good friends, with Dan spotted celebrating Nadiya’s birthday with her in December.
Since their first meeting while attending a Sheffield university together, the married father-of-three has been dating his wife Sarah. They have been dating for two years before getting married in 2001. They share three children, Joe, Jessica and Susanna.
However, when Dan and Nadiya interact with one another on social media, they frequently appear to share a secret code, using lobster emojis. The phrase “you’re my lobster” was coined on hit US sitcom friends, when character Phoebe Buffay said that Ross and Rachel were ‘ lobsters’.
The famous scene saw Phoebe address the couple, who were in an on-off relationship for years, telling them: “She’s your lobster. Come on, you guys. The fact that lobsters fall in love and mate for life is well known. Dan and Nadiya also stunned audiences with their Strictly performance, which featured them dancing to Rock Lobster by The B-52’s soundtrack.
Of course, with Dan spoken for, the pair’s expression of friendship towards each other is platonic, but sweet none-the-less. Nadiya described her recent trip to Sheffield with Dan in an Instagram post last week to promote her upcoming tour, A Special Evening with Nadiya Bychkova.
Dan appears dapper in a tux and Nadiya appears dapper in a stunning red gown for the pair in a photo together. It was great to catch up with my former only partner, @mrdanwalker, who agreed to come in to talk to me and host the Q&, A in Sheffield on February 19 and Barnsley on March 1. I may even persuade him to show us a few steps,” said Nadiya, followed by some lobster emojis.
Nadiya continued, “I fell in love with the city when I trained here with Dan a few years ago, and I’m so excited to return to Yorkshire to show my show.” Fans were delighted to see their reunion, with one writing: “Gorgeous photos Nadiya! What a lovely, special friendship you and Dan have instilled in me. They added: “You &, Dan have to do the lobster dance it’s iconic &, never forgotten one of strictly dances never to be forgotten! My favourite couple ever on Strictly! Have the best time together”!
Meanwhile, another fan wrote: “Team Lobster reunion we all needed!!! Just love you two so much”, with a third commenting: “Sorry Dan but you and Nadiya are meant to be”.
Nadiya celebrated her birthday party in December while she is single after splitting from Kai Widdrington, a fellow Strictly pro, in the summer of 2024. Although neither of them claimed to be together on social media, she spent it with a group of pals, including Dan, while wearing a silver beaded dress and sampling caviar from The Ritz.
She wrote on Instagram: “The most magical evening. Celebrating our belated birthdays with my dear @jemmabolt, celebrating friendship, celebrating life. Last night couldn’t be more perfect. It was like a fairytale”. The mum-of-one continued: “The most iconic place @theritzlondon. With the most incredible people”.
