Following her hospitalization, Amy Dowden’s future on Strictly Come Dancing has received a significant update.

After collapsing backstage following the weekend show, the professional dancer was hospitalized. Following her health scare just moments after the live episode of Strictly aired on BBC One, Amy, who is currently working with JLS star JB Gill, was not on the results show.

Strictly colleague Lauren Oakley, 33, has been stepping in for Amy so JB can carry on his rehearsals. Amy has been confirmed as “doing much better,” but she won’t be participating in this week’s show. On Saturday’s live performance, Lauren will replace Amy and dance with JB.

Strictly bosses will then make a decision on Amy’s condition, according to reports. According to a Strictly Come Dancing spokesperson, “Amy Dowden MBE is doing much better, and the Strictly family sends her love and best wishes.” She is delighted that fellow professional dancer, Lauren Oakley, is able to step in for rehearsals and to perform in Saturday’s show for JB Gill’s Couple’s Choice dance. We all have faith that Amy and JB will return to dance the following week.

Hours after Amy’s health scare, JB’s famous dance partner thanked the public for their support on Sunday. On Instagram, the JLS singer penned: “On behalf of both @amy_dowden and I, I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone for voting for us and wishing us well. We were so appreciative of our performance on Saturday night and are grateful to have been a part of @bbcstrictly for another week.

On Sunday, Amy’s spokesperson explained: “Amy was feeling unwell and so an ambulance was called as a precaution. She is feeling much better and thanks the Strictly family for their support. We request Amy’s privacy in matters of health is kindly respected”.

The BBC added that “due to unforeseen circumstances” Amy was “unable” to be part of the episode, which is recorded on Saturday after the live show. We were called on Saturday night just after 9pm to attend a medical emergency at Borehamwood, according to an East of England Ambulance Service spokesman. The scene received an ambulance. One patient, an adult female, was transported to Barnet Hospital for further care”.

On Sunday night, JB alone filmed the results show. After having a mastectomy and receiving chemotherapy, Amy made a significant comeback to Strictly Come Dancing this year. While on her honeymoon with her husband, a professional dancer, the Welsh dancer discovered a lump in her breast.

She was given a stage three breast cancer diagnosis in February, and tests revealed she had “no evidence of disease” following treatment. In a documentary, Amy has also discussed her experience with Crohn’s and met other people who have the condition.

Crohn’s is a lifelong condition, in which parts of the digestive system become inflamed, can cause stomach aches and cramps, fatigue and diarrhoea, among other symptoms, according to the NHS. Following a Crohn’s flare-up, Amy was taken to hospital in Manchester during the Strictly Live tour in 2022.
