Stephen Fry, 67, shares why he hasn’t been seen with husband Elliott Spencer, 36, in years

Stephen Fry, a TV star and his wife Elliott Spencer, both of whom he is more than 30 years older, celebrated their 10-year wedding anniversary earlier this year.

Since they haven’t been seen together in public in six years, Stephen Fry has explained why he and Elliott Spencer avoid public speaking. The couple tied the knot in Dereham, Norfolk, in January 2015, and the 67-year-old actor-turned-tv host has been married to 36-year-old Elliott since 2015.

Since then, the couple has hardly ever been seen together on the road and actively maintain their romance’s quiet. The duo has never appeared on red carpets or attended glitzy parties, aside from the passing of the occasional premiere or award show ceremony. And six years prior, the couple was last seen together in public.

Stephen has now discussed how he ended up hosting the UK version of the renowned American videogame show Jeapordy! while offering a rare insight into his marriage. The host, who started hosting the quiz show in January of last year, is currently helming the second season.

In scenes that were scheduled to air on Saturday night, Stephen mentioned the circumstances surrounding his appointment as show judge and that he had a marriage.

Earlier this year, Stephen made a rare public comment about his marriage as he shared a throwback photo from his wedding day via social media and published a gushing tribute to his other half. He wrote in an Instagram caption: “Ten happy years to the day since we were joined in marriage. I’m a lucky man.”

In a conversation with the Brave New World last year, Stephen explained why he would hate to live beyond the age of 100. He also discussed his mortality.

He said, “Personally, I don’t care about longevity for myself. I’m interested in the idea of an old age that is as painless as possible and doesn’t cause too much cognitive loss, as I believe most people are…

“But I don’t want to live longer than the rest of my friends,” I say. Maybe I’d be happy to reach 100 if everyone in my family and friends lived into their 120s. However, given how beloved of a flying Dutchman is, I would detest being that lonely figure. The survivor’s dependents and acquaintances have since all passed away. That would be very upsetting to me.
