‘Stay humble’ – Glasner reacts to fan backlash as future in doubt

Oliver Glasner told Crystal Palace supporters who called for him to be sacked to “stay humble” as his future at the club remains in doubt following a poor run of form.

A section of Palace’s away support turned on the 51-year-old during Thursday’s 1-1 draw at Zrinjski Mostar in the Conference League, chanting “we want Glasner out”.

The Austrian has already announced he will leave the club this summer when his contract expires, but sources have told BBC Sport there is uncertainty as to his immediate future after one win in 15 matches.

Glasner, who guided the Eagles to their first piece of major silverware with victory in the 2025 FA Cup final, says supporters should “never forget where they came from”.

“They can say and sing whatever they want,” Glasner said. “I know what I am doing.

“I would say the most important thing is stay humble. I think it’s the same for the fans.

“Stay humble. Never forget where you’re coming from. I think a few who are so critical in this situation are not humble anymore.

Glasner, who moved to Selhurst Park in 2023 from Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt, has been linked with jobs at Manchester United and Tottenham in the past six months.

The Austrian suggested he has turned down jobs to remain with Palace.

“It would have been quite easy for me to step back earlier, [I had] many opportunities to be honest,” said Glasner.

Palace beat rivals Brighton away earlier this month to end their winless run, but they have failed to win a home game since November.

Speaking before Sunday’s game against Wolves at Selhurst Park, Glasner said: “I’m always realistic, and we’re not in the best moment right now. I understand and I take responsibility for everything because I’m responsible for the whole team.

“Right now, I’m just not good enough to replace the players we sold. I’m just not good enough to integrate the new players in a way to play the same way like we did, and I’m not good enough that we can cope with the schedule we had.

“On the other side, I was good enough to play the best season ever [and] win two trophies.

“We are playing a better Premier League season than [in] eight of the last 10 seasons. We play European football, and that is the reality.”

Glasner is the most successful manager in the club’s history having won the FA Cup last season, as well as the Community Shield in August.
