South Africa beat Bangladesh by an innings and 273 runs for 2-0 series win
After enforcing the follow-on and dismissing the hosts for 143 on day three of the second Test in Chittagong, South Africa defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 273 runs to claim a 2-0 series sweep.
The Proteas defeated Bangladesh by 159 runs in their opening innings to take a massive 416-run lead, and Seamer Kagiso Rabada increased the pressure after asking them to bat once more on Thursday.
In the evening session, Bangladesh, who lost the opening game by seven wickets in Dhaka, were bowled out after a familiar collapse with Keshav Maharaj (5-59) and Senuran Muthusamy (4-45).
At Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Bangladesh lost 16 wickets on the day.
As Bangladesh continued to struggle in its first innings, Rabada dismissed Najmul Hossain Shanto for nine, Mehidy Hasan Miraz for one, and Mahidul Islam Ankon for a duck, finishing with 5-37.
The hosts, who had already swept the field 38-4, faced a fightback from 48-8 with Mominul Haque scoring 82, but Muthusamy’s dismissal shortly after lunch put an end to his 103-run ninth-wicket partnership with Taijul Islam.
After a defiant 30, Taijul failed to further frustrate the tourists, becoming Maharaj’s second victim.
Despite Shanto’s 36, Ankon’s 29 and Hasan Mahmud’s late charge, who was unbeaten on 38 in the dying light, South Africa were even more brutal in the second innings to earn a comfortable victory in three days.
In their opening inning, South Africa had three batsmen, including Wiaan Mulder (105 not out), Tristan Stubbs (107), and Tony de Zorzi (177).
De Zorzi received the player of the match award, and Rabada received the series player prize.
By seven wickets, the tourists won the first Test.
In their 16 matches, Bangladesh have never defeated South Africa.
