Snow White star Rachel Zegler lands major BBC gig as Disney film struggles at box office

Rachel Zegler plays the titular role in the upcoming Snow White film from Disney’s upcoming film Snow White, which has received negative reviews from critics since its release last week.
American actress Rachel Zegler is to star in an exciting new BBC project in the wake of her latest film receiving mixed reviews from critics. Snow White, which sees Rachel star as the titular princess in the live action Disney movie, was released worldwide on Friday.
The feature, a remake of the popular 1930s animated film Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, has faced controversy almost since being announced. When Rachel, 23, who is from a Latina background, was cast as a character described as having a complexion “as white as snow”, there was a backlash on social media from right-wing trolls.
Game Of Thrones star Peter Dinklage, who has a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia, criticised Disney, calling it a “backwards story of the seven dwarves living in the cave” on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast. Snow White made estimated $87.3m (£67.5m) globally during its opening weekend, according to Box Office Mojo – way below expectations for a production that cost more than $270m to make.
But amid the bad news associated with her latest movie, lead actress Rachel has bagged an exciting new gig with the BBC. The Hunger Games actress is set to become the latest star to read a CBeebies Bedtime Story!
When the talented actress reads “Never Mess with a Pirate Princess” by Holly Ryan with illustrations by Sián Roberts this Friday [March 28], she will transport young viewers to a magical, fairytale castle.
The Snow White star details Princess Prue’s teddy bear’s theft by pirates. They quickly learn to control the feisty heroine.
At the conclusion of the tale, Rachel says to young viewers, “We can all be strong princesses.” You don’t need a fancy castle, a beautiful white horse, a king, or a queen as parents. You just need to be wonderful, brilliant to be a powerful princess, “says the girl.”
Just days after the BBC’s film critic gave Snow White a mixed review, Rachel makes a special appearance on Britain’s state-funded broadcaster. Nicholas Barber criticized the “story is cluttered, the tone is muddled, and the pacing is off,” but added that it “doesn’t make the movie a disaster.”
He continued, “In some ways, the identity crisis is what makes it worth seeing.” However, students studying politics and film will enjoy this hazy production more than those hoping to experience Disney magic.
Disney said it was consulting members of the dwarfism community to “avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film” after Peter Dinklage claimed Snow White was a “backwards film.”
Some other actors with dwarfism have voiced their reservations about Disney’s use of CGI for the miners. With few opportunities for press appearances, the movie had limited press appearances in Los Angeles and Spain.
Speaking earlier this month, Rachel revealed fellow actresses Dame Helen Mirren and Ariana Grande supported her following a backlash over the US star’s casting as Snow White. The singer and actress made her name as Maria in the 2021 remake of West Side Story, before taking on the role as the princess in the Disney live action remake of its popular 1930s animated film Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs.
Latina Rachel, 23, was the subject of a torrent of online abuse when she was revealed as playing a character who was described as having a complexion “as white as snow” in a fictional character.
She later apologized, saying that she was “extremely appreciative of the love I feel from those defending me online,” but that she had asked them not to mention her in comments.
As Disney tries to get more diverse actors to play traditional characters, British actress and The Good Place star Jameela Jamil has been “like a big sister to me,” Rachel told Allure magazine. She continued, “I love that she doesn’t regret being outspoken, strong-willed, and strong-minded,” adding.
She also referred to herself as Shazam! She was “keeping all of this” with her fellow Fury of the Gods co-stars, Oscar winner Dame Helen, and Charlie’s Angels star Lucy Liu, who she described as “very held by them.”
Rachel said, “If you need anything, I am here, I am here,”’ when she mentioned Ariana, who was nominated for Wicked Oscar.” She is so generous in every way. In spite of all of that, she has undergone a lot of public scrutiny, and I have always admired her bravery.
