‘Sinners’ Breaks All-time Oscars Record With 16 Nominations

The Academy announced on Thursday that the vampire-themed horror film “Sinners” broke the record for nominations at the Oscars with 16 nominations.

The 1930s segregated US South drama, which featured Ryan Coogler, received nominations in nearly every possible category, including best picture.

It blew past the previous record of 14 held by “All About Eve,” “Titanic,” and “La La Land” alone.

Michael B. Jordan, who portrays twins who are battling supernatural forces and racists, was also nominated for best actor in the entire screenplay to score category.

The first new category to be added to Hollywood’s most prestigious awards in more than 20 years was “Sinners,” which also received a nomination for best casting.

With 13 nominations, “One Battle After Another” won the awards for best picture, best actor for Leonardo DiCaprio, and best director for Paul Thomas Anderson.

However, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voters surprisingly snubbed its female lead, 25-year-old Chase Infiniti.

Warner Bros, the movie studio that is currently the target of a competition between Netflix and Paramount, received both of the top two nominations.

Nine nominations were received for the works of Guillermo del Toro, Timothee Chalamet’s ping-pong drama “Marty Supreme,” and Norwegian artist Sentimental Value.

Eight were secured in William Shakespeare’s “Hamnet,” a period drama about the loss of their son in plague-ravaged Elizabethan England.

Although Paul Mescal, the film’s male lead, was overlooked, Jessie Buckley received a nomination for her role as Agnes, the Bard’s long-suffering wife.

The 98th Oscars ceremony will take place on March 15 after the nominations have been received.

Despite receiving almost every prize of the year so far this year, “One Battle” is still the clear winner for best picture.

The zany thriller, starring a retired revolutionary looking for his teenage daughter amid a irrational world of white supremacy, broke the Hollywood Screen Actors Guild’s all-time record for nominations.

Along with Ethan Hawke for the Broadway production of “Blue Moon,” DiCaprio, Chalamet, and Jordan vie for the best actor Oscar, and Wagner Moura from the Brazilian political thriller “The Secret Agent.”

Will Buckley’s performance as an alien in the role of best actress be in the same league as Emma Stone’s? — Rose Byrne as a struggling mother in the indie hit “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You,” Renate Reinsve in the conspiracy theorist drama “Bugonia,” Renate Reinsve in the quirky music biopic “Song Sung Blue,” and Kate Hudson in the indie film “Song Sung Blue.”

– International voters –

Both “Sentimental Value” and “The Secret Agent” received awards for best picture due to the Academy’s rapidly expanding overseas voter base.

However, the Persian-language Palme d’Or winner “It Was Just An Accident” and Spain’s nomadic hippie odyssey “Sirat” and the heartbreaking Palestinian docudrama “The Voice of Hind Rajab” will compete for best international film in the top category.

Surprise winner for best supporting actress was Ariana Grande’s performance in “Wicked: For Good,” which received no nods.

Lynette Howell Taylor, who was recently appointed academy president, issued a warning about the threat of artificial intelligence during the early morning announcement in Los Angeles.

She said, “We live in a world where there is no limit to the advancement of our cinematic experience.”
