Sinner In Dark Over Verdict As ATP Says Doping Case ‘Run By The Book’
As ATP chairman Andrea Gaudenzi emphasized that the Italian doping case was “run by the book,” world number one Jannik Sinner said on Friday that he was unaware when the highest court would pronounce its ruling.
In March, the defending Australian Open champion Sinner had a second positive steroid test positive for clostebol.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency found him not guilty, but instead accepted his claim that the drug entered his system when his physio administered a spray of it to a cut-treatment therapist, who then massaged and treated the player with sports therapy.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport is currently hearing the case, and Sinner could receive a suspension.
The 23-year-old asked the Australian Open’s spokesman if he knew when a verdict was due on the day before the match: “I know exactly as you guys know.
” We are in a stage where we don’t know many, many things. “
Sinner acknowledged that the scandal was still fresh in his mind as he prepares for a tough first-round matchup with Chilean Nicolas Jarry in Melbourne Park.
” You think about this, of course, “he said”. If I told you I forgot, I would lie.
“I’ve had it for a while, and I’ve had it for a while.” However, it is what it is. I’m attempting to prepare for the Grand Slam. Let’s see how it goes”.
Sinner asserted that he had always been “very, very cautious with every medication I take, even what I eat.”
“When the bottle is open, I throw it away, I take a new one”, he said.
“In my mind I know exactly what happened, and that’s how I block it (out).
” I haven’t done anything wrong, that’s why I’m still here. That’s why I’m still playing. “

‘Misinformation’
Novak Djokovic argued last week that high-ranked players appeared to be treated differently than other players and that doping suspensions in tennis should be more transparent.
In an interview that was released on Friday, Gaudenzi claimed that Sinner’s case had been handled properly and that the allegations were untrue.
” I genuinely believe there has been a lot of misinformation out there, which is unfortunate, “Gaudenzi said.
” I am 100 percent sure that there has not been any preferential treatment. The ITIA has run the procedure according to the rules and the book.
Sinner claimed he had been “held in the dark” throughout the entire process, while Djokovic claimed he believed him when he claimed he had a positive result from contamination.
However, Gaudenzi claimed that he was only aware of the situation “two days before the ITIA announced it,” which was improper.
” I initially was a bit shocked. However, it is entirely independent, and it is obvious that a panel was chosen by them.
Gaudenzi pleaded for patience while saying that the game would continue if Sinner was to be outlawed.
” If that is the case, I think he’ll survive and I think we’ll survive. Overall, tennis is a very strong product, “he said.
