In her will, Sinead O’Connor included her heartbreaking wishes for her children.

On July 26, 2023, the legendary musician’s passing at the age of 56 shocked the world. The singer was found “unresponsive” at her home in London. Her cause of death was later determined to be chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma, with her death certificate stating that “low grade lower respiratory tract infection and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are both present.”

However, Sinead and her former husband John Reynolds signed her will ten years before her passing. Sinead made it very clear in her will how her children would handle the death that occurred.

Before becoming an Islamic convert, Sinead wrote and ratified her will, which said, “My children can dispose of my ashes as they please.” After her death, she later wrote about how she wanted her children, who were left with a sum of $1.7 million to re-release any of her music.

She continued, “I direct that any of my children who are over 18 should release my albums so that they can “milk it for what it’s worth” after my death. Sinead left the large sum to her four children, Jake, Brigidine, Yeshua and Shane. However, Shane tragically died aged just 17 in January 2022.

The Sun obtained Irish probate records that show that the amount was reduced to £1.4 million after paying her debts, funeral expenses, and legal fees. Additionally, Sinead wished to be buried in a priest’s attire, along with her album Theology with her and a copy of the Hebrew Bible.

It was stated in a statement that read, “With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad.” At this very difficult time, her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy. This confirms Ms O’Connor’s death from natural causes, the Southwark Coroners Court stated in early January 2024. Therefore, the coroner has stopped being a part of her death. The brief public hearing’s date will be announced on our website if an inquest is to be opened.

Sinead had kept in touch with fans about her life and revealed her plans to pursue further music before her passing. Later, her management team confirmed that she was recording her ninth studio album, which was in its final stages. She had also been looking into booking a tour for 2024, as well as exploring opportunities to turn her 2021 memoir, Rememberings, into a movie.
