Sinead O’Connor’s cause of death has been confirmed.
The legendary musician died aged 56 in on July 26, 2023. The Nothing Compares 2 U musician was found “unresponsive” at her home in London. Her death was determined to be asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. According to Sinead’s death certificate, her death was “a combination of low grade lower respiratory tract infection, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and bronchial asthma.”
Her death was registered by her former husband John Reynolds in Lambeth, London. Now, almost two years after her death, the contents of Sinead’s will have been revealed. She had asked her children to “milk” her music to generate sales, as well asking them to bury her in priests clothes, with a copy of the Hebrew bible as well as her album, Theology.
Sinead left the sum of £1.7million to her children, Jake Reynolds, Brigidine Roisin Waters and Yeshua Bonadio. After covering Sinead’s debts, funeral expenses, and legal fees, Irish probate records revealed that the estate had been reduced to £1.4 million. Before she converted to Islam, her will read, “My children can dispense my ashes as they see fit.”

According to the documents, “I direct that any of my children who are then over 18 will release my albums so as to “milk it for what it’s worth.” Heartbreakingly, Sinead planned for her son Shane to inherit her religious items.
In January of this year, Shane took his own life and tragically passed away at the age of 17. In one of her last social media posts, Sinéad paid a heartbreaking tribute to Shane, her second-born son, who passed away while he was on a suicide watch. It read: “Been living as undead night creature since. He was the love of my life, the lamp of my soul. We were one soul in two halves. He was the only person who ever loved me unconditionally. Without him, I lose myself in the bardo.

Her daughter, Yeshua, was given Sinead’s collection of guitars. Elsewhere, her former husband, John, who she divorced in 1991 was named as the executor of her will. Currently, details of Sinead’s British estate are yet to be disclosed. It was stated in a statement that read, “We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad.”
Her friends and family are devastated, and they want her to be safe in this difficult situation. This confirms Ms O’Connor’s death from natural causes, according to the Southwark Coroners Court’s statement in early January 2024. Therefore, the coroner has stopped being a part of her death. The brief public hearing’s date will be announced on our website if an inquest is being opened.
Sinead had kept in touch with fans about her life and revealed her plans to pursue further music before her passing. Later, her management team confirmed that she was recording her ninth studio album, which was in its final stages. She had also been looking into booking a tour for 2024, as well as exploring opportunities to turn her 2021 memoir, Rememberings, into a movie.
