Fans of Silent Witness may be familiar with Emilia Fox’s role as Dr. Nikki Alexander on-screen, though they may not be aware of her background outside of the TV world.
Silent Witness is the longest-running crime drama currently broadcast on TV thanks to the BBC show’s debut in 1996. The 28th season of the show is currently coming to an end with a thrilling two-part finale, in which Emilia’s Nikki, a suspect in a shooting, must find time to search for a suspect while at work and navigate the difficulties of wedding planning.
The 50-year-old actress is known for her incredible work ethic, and she has appeared in numerous shows and movies, including Pride and Prejudice, an adaptation of Merlin, and the Sky series Delicious. She also read English while earning an Oxford University degree.
Emilia and TV producer Jonathan Stadlen have been dating since 2021, and they are currently dating outside of the theater. Emilia and Jonathan have previously revealed how much they adore one another and added that they feel married despite not being married in the past.
“We very much feel like we are married, but we’re not actually married”, she told Yours Magazine. We make the decision to marry each other every day by choosing to be together, not in a formal capacity. So it’s a daily marriage of love”.
Expanding on this in another interview, the TV star added how the sweet gesture continued to feel “very romantic” for her and Jonathan. In this situation, “Simply saying that we love one another every day is enough.” It has felt very romantic because there’s a choice every day to go, ‘ Yes, I really want to marry you today, ‘” she said to Woman&, Home.
“He inquires about me repeatedly and at various times. Sometimes when we wake up, sometimes it’s at lunchtime, sometimes on bended knee”!
Emilia, who has daughter Rose and Jeremy Gilley, also shined a light on her family life when she described her ideal Sunday afternoon. In 2023, she told The Guardian, “Jonathan has a boat, so we might row on the Thames with Rose and all the dogs.”
It’s a good time to see my parents if they’re in town. Sunday afternoons are often about Rose’s homework, but I do feel like a nag”.
The actress was married to fellow actor Jared Harris before beginning her relationship with Jonathan. Jared is well-known for his roles in shows like Mad Men and The Crown, and he was also honored with a BAFTA for his role in Chernobyl, an HBO miniseries. In a romantic ceremony that included the release of a cloud of butterflies to mark the occasion, the couple wed in Dorset in 2005.
Unfortunately, the couple decided things weren’t going to work out, so they split up before getting divorced in 2010. Emilia revealed her feelings for Jared, who was 13 years her older, in an interview with MailOnline, explaining that their relationship had nothing to do with their split.
“It’s really difficult to keep a relationship when you’re living alone and have careers that depend on being in different countries,” the truth is. I was doing Silent Witness in England for seven or nine months of the year, and Jared’s career was flourishing in America”, she said.
The Silent Witness star revealed that she had a miscarriage at a particularly emotional point in the interview, and she openly admitted that she “didn’t explore enough the impact that had” on them both as well as their relationship.
The happiness was measured against our extraordinary time together because we had been extremely happy. Maybe it was because of having had the miscarriage, which really hit me a year later”, she added.
She continued: “I think it was my fault that I didn’t explore the emotional side. I believed you could get over a terrible illness. I was working, and I put my whole attention on that.
