The head coach of Tottenham wants to see more women playing for him, despite the fact that Robert Vilahamn is one of only six men currently in charge of a Women’s Super League team.

Following the recent replacement appointments of Renee Slegers at Arsenal and Natalia Arroyo at Aston Villa, who both replaced men, there is a gender split among the 12 WSL managers.

The north London club’s new manager, who is in his second season, claims he has a responsibility to provide more opportunities for women.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live’s Women’s Football Weekly podcast, he said: “You can ask me ‘ why are you working in the women’s game, shouldn’t you give the chance for a women’s coach to be head coach? ‘”

“I hope more and more]women] become head coaches. I’d like to see more women coaches coaching the men’s game.

However, my approach is to ensure that I’m a good ally for gender equality and that I have different age groups of coaches around me, particularly female coaches.

You can say anything to me, but I always prefer a woman over a man because it always works the other way around.

Former Mexico international Bri Campos, who is currently under the guidance of senior assistant head coach Vicky Jepson, was praised by Vilahamn earlier this month.

They have incredible knowledge, and he said, “You don’t find that if you don’t dare try,” adding that he was aware of the importance of having female insight while playing women’s football.

“I’m working with female athletes, and if I think I know about females I]am] wrong, I need that expertise around me to be a good leader as well.

The 42-year-old Swede claims that his family teaches him how important it is to be a good ally to women.

” I have twins, one son and one daughter, “he says”. My daughter simply merits the same opportunity as my son, in my opinion.

He also recognizes that his position at Spurs offers him a fantastic opportunity to effect change.

In order to make sure I make a difference, I actually have a big role in a big club on a big stage.

“Purpose in life is something you want to have,” according to the saying, “I have it, and I am able to do something about it.” It’s quite cool.
