Sheridan Smith cut a chic figure as she stepped out after announcing her return to the West End on Friday.

The actress, 41, announced she will return to the theatre with the one-woman show Shirley Valentine from February next year.

Sheridan, who has previously won two Olivier Awards, gave a thumbs up while arriving at BBC Radio 2 in London, clad in a check trouser suit and semi sheer top.

The play, which was also made into a 1989 movie with Pauline Collins, tells the story of a working class housewife from Liverpool which focuses on her dissatisfaction with life before a transformative foreign holiday.

Sheridan was perfectly put together in her elegant ensemble, which she teamed with a camel coloured tote bag and chunky wooden bangles.

The mum-of-one looked sharp in her high-waisted navy wide leg trousers and coordinating tailored jacket.

Excited: Taking to Twitter Sheridan wrote: 'Very very excited to be back in the West end, this time doing the brilliant one woman play Shirley Valentine!'

Adding a sexy twist, the star ticked a semi sheer blouse into the waist ban, which allowed a glimpse of her bra to be seen through the fabric.

Speaking about the casting Sheridan said: ‘As a mum now myself I’m delighted to be playing theatre’s best-loved mum and I am honoured to be entrusted by Willy Russell to bring his Shirley to life once again in the West End. Now, to practice cooking chips and egg!’.

Producer David Pugh added: ‘Back in 1986 I was lucky enough to see the first ever production of Shirley Valentine in Liverpool’.
