Senate Reshuffles Committee Leadership, Appoints Chairmen For Regional Devt Commissions
Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, praised lawmakers’ commitment to examining the budget for the year and expressed satisfaction with the just-concluded budget defense sessions.
The Senate President made the comment during a two-week break while presided over the plenary’s resume.
The Senate has a minor reshuffle, appointing chairmen and deputy chairmen to oversee these commissions, in the wake of President Bola Tinubu’s approval of legislation establishing development commissions for various regions of the nation.
Senators Muntari Dandutse and Babangida Hussaini will serve as the North West Development Commission’s Chairman and Deputy Chairman, according to Akpabio.
The Senate Committee on the North Central Development Commission will be led by Senator Titus Zam and Senator Isa Jibrin, while Senators Orji Uzor Kalu and Kenneth Eze have also been appointed as chairman and Deputy Chairman.

In a related development, the Senate has reshuffled the leadership of some standing committees. Senator Abdul Ningi has been appointed to lead the Senate Committee on FERMA from the Population Committee.
Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, previously in charge of the Committee on Local Content, is now the Chairman of the Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations.
Senator Joel Thomas, the new chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content, and Senator Garba Maidoki, who is currently the chair of the Senate Committee on Sports Development, are other newly appointed committee heads.
Senator Victor Umeh has been re-appointed as the chairman of the Senate Committee on National Population and NIMC.
The House of Representatives Speaker expressed condolence over the passing of former deputy majority whip Hon. Oriyomi Onanuga, on January 15.
