Flavor Flav has been vocal in supporting Selena Gomez’s outcry against President Donald Trump’s widespread deportations of undocumented immigrants in a video that has since been removed.
The 32-year-old actress expressed her sense of helplessness over Trump’s harsh policy ahead of the 2024 election by publicly expressing her outrage on camera. Despite facing significant backlash for the video, with some critics labelling her as ‘ shallow ‘ and ‘ narcissistic, ‘ hip hop artist Flavor Flav, 65, has come to her defence.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday night, the artist, whose real name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr, stated: “Team Selena Gomez. Again. Many people bully her, but that woman is always so brave to share her truth.
Following his supportive message, many social media users have praised Flavor Flav for ‘ recognising Selena’s strength ‘ and ‘ standing up for her against negativity. ‘ Flav never feigns to express his thoughts, according to one commentator. Respect”.
Another echoed this sentiment, writing: “Flavor Flav always knows how to support his friends! It’s wonderful to see stars “lifting up” one another.
A third commented: “As a proud Selenator, it’s heartwarming to see Flavor Flav recognise Selena’s strength and openness about her health and mental health”. A fourth added: “It’s great to see Flavor Flav showing support for Selena Gomez. She’s been through a lot, and it’s good to see public figures standing up for each other against negativity”.
Another person commented on his tweet, highlighting the value of kindness and backing those who discuss their personal struggles. They asked, “What do you think about this kind of support from celebrities”?
A sixth supporter gushed: “It’s great to see support like that for someone who’s been so open about her struggles! Solidarity can really make a difference”.
Selena, in an emotional Instagram video, burst into tears as she shared: “All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something, but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise”.
However, not everyone was moved by her candid post, some quickly pounced on her, questioning why she wasn’t using her substantial fortune, reported to be $1.3 billion, to help directly instead.
U.S. Senate candidate Sam Parker blasted Selena herself and suggested she should be deported because of the content of her video. Parker, a U.S. citizen with Mexican parents looking for a new life, persevered.
His controversial stance was broadcast online as he posted: “Deport Selena Gomez”, alongside Selena’s heartfelt recording. He continued his rants, saying Selena Gomez chose illegals over Americans because she was the third gen ally of Mexican illegals who were granted citizenship during the “87 Amnesty,” and that he had started a conversation with her on another account before finally sharing it with his official channels.
In his provoking message, he stated: “She has an entitlement attitude toward America, like her illegal g’parents. Maybe Selena should be deported, too”?
Reacting with poise and a dash of humour to the fiery words directed at her, the former Disney darling struck back via Instagram declaring: “Oh Mr. Parker, Mr. Parker. Thanks for the laugh and the threat”.
