By releasing a video that looked like it was a bold propaganda move, the White House X account sparked controversy. After posting a tearful video last week in response to the deportation of Mexican immigrants, some even outrageously demanded that she be deported.
Mothers reportedly killing their children by illegal immigrants were depicted in the retaliatory video released by the White House, yelling at Selena and praising President Trump. Many slammed the post as “grossly inappropriate” for using an official platform to go after a civilian, thereby endangering her by “putting a target on Selena’s back” and infringing on her free speech rights.
In the now-removed footage, the acclaimed ‘ Only Murders in the Building ‘ actress broke down saying: “I just wanted to say that I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I would like to do something, but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise”.
Selena, with a staggering following of over 420 million on Instagram—surpassing the entire US population—deleted the emotional clip and retorted with a pointed message, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people”.
In a shocking White House-produced video titled “Moms of Victims of Illegal Aliens SLAM Selena Gomez: You Didn’t Cry for Our Daughters”, bereaved mothers take aim at Selena Gomez. Others echoed criticisms of the content’s suitability, asking, “Why is this on the White House page?” very inappropriate and unprofessional” and lambasting whoever manages the account: “Whoever is running this page is an embarrassment. Entirely unprofessional”, In simpler words, another simply stated, “this is crazy”!.
The clip, which many observers saw as a dangerous descent into using government platforms to attack private citizens for disapproval of state policies, amounts to nothing but propaganda.
There is growing concern that the Trump administration may have directly tagged and mentioned Selena in the video, potentially inciting people to target the actress.
