Scotland have been boosted by the unexpected return of number eight Jack Dempsey to their squad before Saturday’s showdown with Grand Slam-chasing France.
The 31-year-old injured his bicep in the Calcutta Cup win over England and was expected to miss the rest of the Six Nations.
But Scotland announced he has returned to the squad before the visit of undefeated France to Murrayfield.
It is good news for Gregor Townsend’s side, who sit second in the table, because Dempsey’s ball carrying and dynamism were missed in the win over Wales.
The Glasgow Warriors back row scored in the defeat by Italy, has been in fine form for his club this season and, if he is fit to play a part at Murrayfield, would add more grunt as Scotland face France’s formidable pack.
France will arrive in Edinburgh as favourites to win the match and set up a shot at the Grand Slam against England in Paris the following week.
However, a Scotland victory would keep their title hopes alive before their visit to Ireland on the final weekend.
Glasgow front-row pair Seb Stephen and Murphy Walker have also joined up with the squad after playing in Warriors’ defeat by Connacht on Saturday.
