Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events – day 1,083

Here is the situation on Tuesday, February 11:

Fighting

  • According to regional official Ihor Kalchenko, a woman was hurt and five homes were damaged in the overnight Russian drone attack on Sumy, in northeastern Ukraine. A separate attack on a non-residential building in Kyiv also sparked a fire, the capital’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said.
  • 15 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed overnight, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. Seven were downed over Russia’s southern Krasnodar region, while the rest were destroyed in the country’s southern and western regions, the ministry said.
  • Just over 20 of the unmanned aerial vehicles, the military added, failed to reach their targets, while the Ukrainian military claimed to have shot down 61 out of 83 of Russia’s launched drones overnight.

Russian Gas &amp, Oil

  • Moldova’s Prime Minister Dorin Rocean said the country’s pro-Russian breakaway enclave, Transnistria, has rejected the European Union’s 60 million euro ($61.8m) offer to fund gas purchases. According to Rocean, “Russia doesn’t allow them to accept European aid out of fear of losing control of the area.”
  • Transnistria’s leader, Vadim Krasnoselsky, said a Hungarian company was arranging to supply gas to the separatist enclave with “Russian credit and functional support”. Recean stated that gas would begin to flow as a result of this arrangement on February 13.

Politics &amp, Diplomacy

  • Russian deputy foreign minister Mikhail Galuzin, who was quoted by RIA as saying that Moscow had not received any good ideas to engage in a ceasefire dialogue with Ukraine.
  • According to Moscow’s state news agency TASS, Chinese President Xi Jinping accepted the invitation to observe World War II commemorations of the Soviet defeat of Nazi Germany. May 9 marks the 80th anniversary of the victory.
  • Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, is scheduled to speak at the Munich Security Conference, where Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine will be at the top of the agenda. The conference, which will begin on Friday and will feature senior representatives from US President Donald Trump’s administration, is scheduled to take place on the sidelines.
  • Three unnamed Western officials, according to the news website Semafor, claimed Keith Kellogg, Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, had informed allies that he was considering options for ending the Ukrainian conflict. According to an AFP news source at the White House, Kelly is scheduled to travel to Ukraine on February 20.

  • Zelenskyy claimed that “serious people” from the Trump administration would be in Ukraine ahead of the Munich Security Conference in a video released by Ukrainian media. According to the AFP, Zellenskyy also intends to meet with US Vice President JD Vance at the security conference.
  • Russian deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov claimed that there was no agreement between Moscow and Washington regarding Donald Trump’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. If Ukraine’s root causes were left unresolved, according to Ryabkov, and the Kremlin was prepared for dialogue “on an equal basis,” it would be impossible to reach an agreement on ending the war.
  • Ryabkov added that any agreement reached by Putin in June must be reached before there can be a resolution. Under these circumstances, Ukraine must abandon its commitment to NATO and withdraw its troops from four of Russia’s disputed regions.
  • The US decision to freeze foreign aid has begun threatening six investigations by Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office into Russia’s alleged war crimes, the Reuters news agency reports, citing eight sources and a Ukrainian document. At least five of the projects have their funding frozen, according to reports that are worth $89 million.
  • At least eight Ukrainian civilians detained in Russia are receiving immediate and comprehensive medical care, according to Alice Jill Edwards, the UN special rapporteur on torture. “Urgent action is needed to protect their lives”, she said.
