A rugby league player has fled to his native Papua New Guinea after being charged with rape, sexual assault, and two counts of assault.
Keven Appo, 25, who played for Bradford Bulls, was given conditional bail at 16: 00 GMT on 26 November, Bradford Magistrates ‘ Court heard on Monday.
By 20:40 GMT that evening, Mr. Appo had boarded a connecting flight from Manchester Airport to Dubai and then arrived in Papua New Guinea.
On Monday morning, Mr. Appo was scheduled to appear at the court for a hearing.
According to Ms. Newcombe, he had informed the rugby club’s manager of his home and car keys.
She claimed that he would now be extradited in Papua-Neu Guinea in collaboration with police.
Mr Appo, of Halifax, was sacked by Bradford Bulls after he was charged with the offences.
Keven Appo’s playing contract was terminated, the club previously stated in a statement.
Mr. Appo, a Papua New Guinea international, participated in England’s 2022 Rugby League World Cup.
He signed a new two-year contract with the Bulls in August of last year before moving forward in 2023.
