Rivers Sole Administrator Confirms Release Of Withheld Allocations
Ibok-Ete Ibas, the sole administrator of Rivers State, has announced the release of withheld local government funds, ensuring that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure the timely payment of workers’ salaries.
Ibas described the meeting as a crucial moment in the state’s collective effort to restore stability and progress during a meeting with the head of local government administrators in Port Harcourt.
The Niger Delta’s population continues to suffer despite the region’s abundance of natural resources, according to The Sole Administrator.
He remarked, “This is unacceptable,” stressing the need for accountability and transformation.
Rivers Sole Administrator advises traditional rulers against partisan politics.
The administrator acknowledged the difficulties of the workers who were impacted by the delay in paying salaries across local government areas.
He assured the workers that the withheld amounts had been released and that his administration would make sure salaries were received without delay, adding, “I feel the pain of the workers.”
He did, however, warn that strict financial accountability would be enforced.
Ibas, a retired vice admiral and former chief of the naval staff, instructed all local government areas to submit their wage bills to the head of service, with supporting documentation.
He stated that his administration would not tolerate unintentional spending and would cooperate with any mismanagement.
Ibas argued that the pursuit of good governance requires more than just a slogan to change the negative narrative over the course of the next six months.
He added that in order to improve security at the local level, it is crucial to work with traditional rulers and security organizations.
He exhorted local government administrators to “take the lead in ensuring security within your domains.”
Clifford Paul, the governor of the Port Harcourt Local Government Area and the president of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), acknowledged the state’s continued progress in the wake of political unrest.
He praised the Federal Government for appointing the sole administrator, citing his experience with leadership and competence.
He urged the administrator to prioritize the welfare of employees while promising to support peace and stability.
Local government employees are currently owed two months’ salaries, he explained, but are optimistic now that the withheld amounts have been made public.
